Playing rift randomly cause BSOD

Hi,

While playing rift generally happens when a lot of action on screen it stops responding, and I have to ctrl ald and del to get into task man and force shut rift down. However if I then try to load rift again as soon as I enter the game I get a BSOD pointing at a ATIkpmg file I think.

I have done a Complete fresh install and still suffering.

Any help would be appreciated, I would have added the minidump file but it appears it didn't create one

There aren't any .dmp files in your attachment as you stated, however these are required to analyse the BSOD.

Follow these steps:

1. Configure Windows to create minidumps:

2. Set the paging file on C: to be the same size as the physically installed RAM:

3. Set the Windows Error Reporting service to MANUAL:

4. Test to see that dump files are created:
- Open Windows Task Manager
- Navigate to the Processes tab
- Right-click on explorer.exe, and click Create Dump File

- Note the location of the saved file

- Check that location and confirm that explorer.dmp exists

ok I have done another clean format as was having some other issues.

Still getting the BSOD tho so heres the files this time including the minidump

OK, one dump included in those logs. It's a 0x116 which is a Video TDR Error (Timeout Detection Recovery) which could be down to one or more of a few causes so we'll look at the obvious first. The ATI driver has indeed been flagged in the dump and looking at the date the first thing I'd recommend is looking for a more recent version here.

   Note

When installing choose 'Advanced' or 'Custom' (whichever option is available, just not Express) and uncheck everything except the video driver.

Also uninstall Daemon Tools, a proven cause of countless BSODs.

1. Uninstall Daemon Tools.
2. Download the SPTD standalone installer and perform the following steps.
3. Double click the executable to open it.
4. Click the button shown below.

If the button it is grayed out as shown in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system and you can just close the window.

Perform these steps, test and report back.

Drivers are the most upto date ones even the currently available beta drivers are older. I have uninstalled deamon tools but the file you linked is not supported by my system (I even looked up the x64 one as I have 64bit windows)

Will try again to see if I can get a crash without deamon tools installed and post back, what the chances of this being a hardware error and what I can do to test for hardware failure.

If you continue to receive 0x116s without a driver replacement solving the issue we'll look at your GPU itself next. The most stable AMD driver we usually recommend is 13.9, I've posted the instructions to install it below.

Download the 13.9 driver from here then use AMD Uninstall Utility to remove all traces of your current driver, CCC etc. Reboot and install the 13.9 driver.
