you seriously need to jump to the newer piledrivers you will see so much of a jump over what you are seeing now at those same settings

I know mate but for what i do with my pc, just gaming there is no point yet. when they were first released and getting bad reviews i was set to switch to intel on my next upgrade but that would have been a good while from now. Now i've seen what they're actually like i now have room to upgrade without a full platform change and will go the Piledriver route but i'll wait untill the end of the year or something when the prices have dropped. Not that they're too expensive as they're not, Its just i can't justify the purchase to the mrs and being on disability living allowance we have more important things to be spending on at the moment. Once the price comes down or i come across a nice deal when funds are better i may get one sooner :p

Sometime ago tw33k, Mark, was fiddling with a Bulldozer and switched to a Piledriver and was disappointed in its lack of improvement. He went to an Intel build and was very happy. But this of course is even more money than AMD.
My point, I guess, is don't worry about upgrading to a Piledriver for the sake of a few MHz of overclock. :)

Most people seem happy with them and say they're a lot better than the BD. Atleast now i have a viable upgrade without having to switch to intel which would mean new a board too. There's no way i could do that for a long time lol plus i have no need to go the intel route as i only game on my rig.
As good as the intel chips are they're just over priced. It would be even more of a waste than what i have now lol. If i come across a PD really cheap i'll snap it up but untill then i'm happy with what i have ;)
i was recently offered an new 8150 by a friend in norway for £50 shipped and i would'nt of had to pay untill i'd tested it but i was building my daughters rig at the time so couldn't afford it. No doubt i'll come across another deal :D

Well, I have read that a AMD CPU along with certain AMD GPUs outperform Intel in many games, their Fusion(?) platform I think. Yeah, Intel stuff is overpriced.

Yeah if you have both AMD cpu/gpu it unlocks other features. Scorpious was the last i think. Those APU's are supposed to be really good aren't they. All the cpu's/ gpu's ive had so far have been AMD and i could not fault any of them. i'd rather have stayed with AMD for my gpu's but had the choice taken from me lol. Still i can't complain as my 670's were free ;)
people always say how bad ATI drivers are but i never had any probs but Nvidia has given me a fair few lol.

Honestly it's not just clocking it high it is better perfromance all around the scheduling process is better

Memory controler works better Britton you know there has been dramatic improvments over the previous generation that just can't be unnoticed 8120 max cinbench was 7.05 now with a better chip round the same OC i was getting 7.95 that is a 90 pt jump so i don't see how it wasn't improved and adding 200mhz got me a score of 8.10 -8.11 so the gains are there but understood Gangiry choice not really a point to justify spending if you already put money elswhere

Yes Scorpious is the latest platform any FX series chip along with a 6 series or 7 series GPU will bring the SCORPION platform out

The Fushion platform is the one with a APU cpu and a mid range gpu it still turns into scorpious but these compete with intel HD graphics in combination with a gpu

My first venture into Gpu overclocking went aswell as i thought it would. I couldn't get much of an increase on the core clock, +50 over the factory oc with a locked voltage so anything over +50 doesn't pass Unigine Valley. It takes my max kepler boost upto 1215Mhz instead of 1175.
Mem clock i haven't pushed higher than +225Mhz.
Power target was set to 128% and for the 1st time it actually hit 100%.

After checking with Google it seems that some with this card are not even getting as high as i did.
I enjoyed trying though :D

Edit: I've searched google to see what others are reaching with this gpu and found that the max core anyone has got on it is +70 ish. People are able to up the mem clock by a couple of hundred Mhz though so i'll see what i can get with the mem 2moz morning :D

Your vddc is already at 1.175v. That's already 'max safe' for these cards. Pushing past that is diminished returns for a lot of effort (Ie bios modding)

Keep it up mate :)

Yeah i know mate kepler's are locked @ that bar some Gigabyte cards and modding/ changing bios's is not something i'm interested in. I was just seeing what they could do ;) for the sake of it as there is no point to overclocking them really.

I got a modded bios for my 660ti mate, only unlocked it to 1.2v iirc. I still couldn't overclock the card more than a few mhz. Waste of time so I flashed it back.

I've seen plenty of horror stories regarding flashing gpu bios's but even without those stories i still wouldn't. I'm pretty much guarantee that my cpu bottlenecks my cards anyway so there's n point. It was just nice to see what they could do @ stock voltages :D They went straight back to stock after benching too ;)
It's mad how far some peeps go to wring that last few Mhz out enit lols

I can definitely understand the hesitation, but now it seems to be far more "safe" now than it would have been several years ago.

Then at the same I see the other reason why you don't want to do it, so I'm making moot points aren't I? :p

It would be just my luck something would die a death on me lol. I can see why people overclock/ bench though as it's good to see what results you can get with a bit of tweaking. Then it's i wonder if i can beat that and so the slippery slope begins :D

We've all been there and will be there again.

It's in our nature. And I need to overclock something now. :)

I'm using a modded bios with my two 7850's. It works like a charm, and there were very little chances of bricking the cards, since they have a dual bios chip. If something went wrong I could have switched to the secondary bios and reflash the primary with the one I'd saved. So if your cards have dual bios, I'd think it is not very risky to try a modded one.

I'm afraid I'm becoming an OC junky too! And since I'm such a noob (basically ignorant) I do things without much regard for involved risks. So far I haven't bricked or fried anything (fingers crossed).
Ignorance is bliss some times, or so my GF tells me!

Cheers,

J

Did you notice much performance difference after the BIOS mod? I've got a 7850 as well so I'm tempted. I tried to OC the card but I never managed to get it stable and it made my display cut to a grey screen so much.
