Power Options Problem

I am using Windows 7 32bit and although I am setting the power options to turn off the display after 10 minutes nothing happens and the screen does not turn off
Any help would be much appreciated

Hi quincysw , Try resetting the power options default http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/950-power-plan-restore-default-settings.html see if after doing this you can reset the 10mins shut off

Hello Brian,

What type of display are you using that this is not working for?

Just to make sure, this will only turn off the display(s) after X amount of minutes of no keyboard, mouse, and touchscreen activity on the computer by the user. I know it's silly to say, but I have to verify.

If your computer uses a battery, then in your power plan settings, double check to make sure that you have both the On battery and Plugged in "Turn off the display" options set.

I am using using desktop computer and trying to set the display so that it turns off after 10 minutes. There is no movement of mouse or keyboard.

Yes that is exactly what I have been doing but for some reason the display does not turn off

run cmd.exe

type in, followed by hitting ENTER:
powercfg -q > %userprofile%\desktop\powersettings.txt

now type, followed by Enter
EXIT

upload as an attachment the powersettings.txt file that is now on your desktop.

Now while I'm studying that file, could you please help us a little further by filling out your system specs? Those specs just might help me and others to make an educated guess at the source of your problem.

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

ADD the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block, for example,
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.
