Hey everyone,

I am just wondering how to prevent my laptop from sleeping when my iPod is connected to the USB port and charging. If I recall correctly, this was something that was enabled but I forgot how to get this back.

Thanks in advance!

You can alter the power settings and set sleep to never, but you will likely want to do this only when charging, then set it back to extend battery life.

iPods will not charge when the pc is asleep, and it can actually drain their batteries, unlike other chargers. Apple, go figure ;)

Thanks for the suggestion.

I was wondering if there was any way for the laptop to know not to sleep when items are connected and charging through the USB ports.
Seems like a hassle I have to change Sleep to Never every single time when I am charging various peripherals..

Not that I am aware of, or find. This is an Apple thing. A Guy

Does that mean that if I am charging another peripheral, say my Logitech MX Performance, my laptop will not sleep? This is not a setting I have to enable?

Any one else have anything to share?

No, I mean Apple devices will not charge when the laptop is asleep, but other devices often will. It depends on whether your laptops USB ports stay active when the PC is asleep. Apple devices require the PC to be on.

   Note
Note: If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged into power and that the lid or display is open because if the lid is closed the computer may go into either standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and iPod will not charge.

Charging your iPod battery

Hopefully someone else has an idea to prevent sleep if a charger is attached.
