Problem selecting Default Audio Device

I'm having a problem with my sound devices. I plug my headphones in, my headphones work fine in other devices, but my computer still runs the sound through the inbuilt speakers instead of through the headphones. The only program I can run through the headphones is WIndows Media Player because I changed the settings in WMP. All my other applications play sound through the in-built speakers at all times, even when the headphones are plugged in.

I have tried re-installing the latest drivers for my sound card, it's an IDT one. I have also tried to make the headphones my default device when I go into Sound>Playback I click on 'make this the default device' but it doesn't do anything.

I have tried everything and it's very annoying.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

humm...It sounds strange
Can you try this, don't know if it helps
Right click to the speaker icon on the bottom right of the screen-->choose volume control option--> un-check on the all device currently playing sounds and choose your headphone

Hope it works

Hi Tuan,
Thanks for the suggestion. Didn't help at all though. I am using the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC if that helps anyone at all.

Does the IDT device have a Control Panel?

If there is a control available it will probably be located there.

Some internal audio systems have options for auto-sensing when a headphone is plugged into the Line-Out jack.

Thanks Aphelion. I tried going through the IDT Control Panel but still wouldn't let me select the headphones as the default device. I ended up going into Msconfig and disabling the IDT service in Startup and Services which ended up fixing the problem.

Good job, so the audio card software was working against you?
