Happens with all shortcuts on desktop?
When running an exe file in windows explorer?

Normally you get a picture like:
w7-jpgedit-1.png

But yours stated: "C\Program"! Most likely somewhere in registry is:
C:\Program Files\somefolder\somedll.dll
but it must be
"C:\Program Files\somefolder\somedll.dll"

or "%ProgramFiles%\somefolder\somedll.dll"

Somewhere double quotes are missing! If no double quotes.... a space is treated like a separator.

That's what confused me. If it had an address following the "Program" part, I could hunt it down, but with this I don't know where to start.

I'll try and watch for it next time. There really doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason; the indicated message just appears. While I haven't noted the exact frequency; I believe it to be maybe two or three times a week.

Thanks, Allan

So not on boot? So noot just after logon? It looks as it's somewhat random? Every friday, every 20 hours after logon... find a logic!

The latest: It happens on my PC also. I rebooted the PC to Windows 7 (normally on Linux) and got "error.jpg". I sent it to my laptop and saved in temp folder. I then opened up Windows Explorer to check on the file and I got "error2.jpg". So I'll include the attachments: error from PC and error2 from lappy.

What Troubleshooting Steps have you completed yet?

Have you run Malwarebytes and SFC, established a Clean Boot?

Might as well get started because it's not going to fix itself.

Start by doing following commands in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/783-elevated-command-prompt.html

Code:
reg query hklm /d /f rundll /s |find /i "c:\program fi"
reg query hkcu /d /f rundll /s |find /i "c:\program fi"
reg query hkcr /d /f rundll /s |find /i "c:\program fi"
reg query hkcc /d /f rundll /s |find /i "c:\program fi"
post output

Code:
reg query hklm /d /f rundll /s |find /i "%programfi"
reg query hkcu /d /f rundll /s |find /i "%programfi"
reg query hkcr /d /f rundll /s |find /i "%programfi"
reg query hkcc /d /f rundll /s |find /i "%programfi"
post output

All %programfi and c:\program fi entries are enclosed in double quotes... nice. Except....
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\Evernote\Evernote\EVERNOTECLIPPER.EXE REG_SZ Ru
nDLL32.exe

But that's a key name not a value

I keep getting this message and don't have a clue where the problem lies. i've searched and found similar, but not identical to this. The attachment says it all.
When exactly do you get it?

I'll try and watch for it next time. There really doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason; the indicated message just appears. While I haven't noted the exact frequency; I believe it to be maybe two or three times a week....

~~~
The latest: It happens on my PC also. I rebooted the PC to Windows 7 (normally on Linux) and got "error.jpg". I sent it to my laptop and saved in temp folder. I then opened up Windows Explorer to check on the file and I got "error2.jpg". So I'll include the attachments: error from PC and error2 from lappy.
Then try greg's suggestion (see below) - but maybe disable only the apps that are common to both computers. It sounds like you might have to run the computers for a week with stuff disabled to know the results :-(
Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 to establish a Clean boot, resolve repeat errors in the logs, use System Resources to find solutions to problems. Run the System File Checker.
You know I really don't have a clue; it is quite random. The last time I got it was opening Windows Explorer Win + E., but that was only once. I am on my laptop most, but it happens on my PC also; again randomly. I think I have an earlier post showing two of these messages at one time from the PC.
I have another issue with the Caps key not returning to lowercase; only in Windows 7 not in Linux; so it's Windows related. Neither of these issues are major; just an annoyance. I'm inclined to just forget about them until Windows 8 comes out and start fresh.
Let us know the progress when you get started on Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.
You are at 17 posts and don't appear to have started yet.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/220165-troubleshooting-steps-windows-7-a.html
I have Malwarebytes Pro and MS Security Essentials; have ran them both; no problems. I'm not going through all the troubleshooting list. The problem doesn't happen often enough. I could go through that whole list and the chance of it happening is very remote. 17 posts? Make this my last and I'll call it solved. I'll be doing Windows 8 when it comes out so all of this should be moot.
Thanks for being honest about not wanting to do the work.
I thought since you are already a Skilled member you would be interested in getting to know Win7 better which is as much of a benefit of the Troubleshooting steps as discovering the problem at hand.
