Problem with file permissions - help!

I've just bought a new Windows 7 computer and I'm having a problem with my e-mail and newsgroup program, Forte Agent.

It's perhaps unusual in that it has a Data folder as a subfolder of the main program folder in C:\Program Files (x86). Because of this, I think Windows 7 has assumed that the files in the Data folder can't be modified or deleted. In fact, Agent itself has to be able to modify files in this folder in certain situations.

I've tried amending the file permissions using Windows Explorer but the Write options seem to be greyed out. It offers the permissions for various categories of user and shows me under my registered name as both an Administrator and a User, but I can't seem to change the permissions whichever user category I select.

I'm puzzled because this issue never occurred when I was using Forte Agent under Windows NT on my old computer. Anyway, I need some basic guidance here - any help will be much appreciated.
