Psp images

Well I must admit, I'm now totally at a loss.
I got my mate to send me a *.pspimage file made with X3. I dropped it on my desktop and I could see it straight away with the PSP Thumbnail Handler (the free one).

Lynda here, I downloaded the irfanview and it works if you open your folder using it...
every image shows up altho the background is black at least you can see your psp images....I will continue to use that until i can find the solution that we are having...
and just to let you know i have come across many others with the same problem after switching to windows 7...

You can change the background color of Irfanview this way:
Open Irfanview. Click "Options" then "Poperties and Settings" at the bottom of that screen is "Main Window Color" Click "Choose2 to the bight of the black bar and you can have whatever color you wish for the background.

I am still having the same problems with these images of psp, i have to many images to resave them again, I downloaded mine as a zip file and like lydna i could see them before when i had windows xp and windows vista, most of the psp viewers that you can get don't really work, and i am stiil confussed with the prompt thing and what to do with it even though it is written down for me to do it, I sorry but i don't use sypke.....

All i want to do is view my images within my folders with out having any other programs to use to view them.

I think you should find that all of the viewers suggested here do work, it's just a matter of choosing the one that suits you best. Personally I use Irfanview as with its add ons there are very few images either movie of still that it wont view.
I still think the problem here is with the original files that were downloaded. I have put a small PSP up on my host and would ask that you , plus Lynda and anyone one else who has this problem to download the image save it to your picture folder and see if that shows as a thumnail in your Windows Explorer.

This way we can isolate at least one possible cause. I think that is the only way to get to the bottom of the problem!

That's very good. So this proves that it is the original files causing the problem. If I send you my email address via the PM would you like to send me just two of your files that don't show up. I can then analyse them to see if we can cure the problem permanently. Have just sent you a PM

Thanks for the images. Have solved the problem. Explanation is a bit lengthy so will type it up tomorrow ASAP. My dinner is ready now and I am in enough trouble with computers today with my "boss" aka wilfe so will say goodnight. More tomorrow!

Sounds like the psp files embedded thumbnails have either got messed up or have a compatibility issue with Win 7 that they didn't have with XP

Sorry about the delay, have been out all day photographing rescued horses. There are 65 of them and everyone says never work with children or animals. Tiring but great fun!
Back to the PSP problem.
What I have found is that Windows 7 does not render a number of image formats as well as XP did. One instance is that it does not show animated gifs. There is a long thread on this subject here on this Forum.
The same is true for some of the PSP formats of which there are many. One of the images that Anita sent me had the file extension PSP but it had been saved under the "PSP Animation Shop" format. The other one had been saved as a "PSPimage" That's the actual file extension. One would think that just changing that extension to .PSP should solve the problem but it does not. Win 7 WE does not recognise the thumbnail content. It only recognises and shows the thumnails of files saved with the choice under the save as drop down window "PSPIMAGE" but you need to manually insert ".PSP" and not let is save as a file extension of ".PSPIMAGE"
I have tried the batch conversion facility in Irfanview but this does not solve the problem. I think the resave must be done in Photoshop Pro. I see that there is a batch conversion facility there but haven't had a chance to try that. I think the answer is to resave each individual image when they are downloaded.
So regretably the soltion is a bit long winded but I can't see an alternative. I suppose a Win 7 patch might be a possibilty but I reckon we will have to wait for Win 8 to see if that solves it.

Not quite right, if you look one of the images that didn't work had the file extension .PSP but did not show as a thumbnail. On analysing the file this was the one that had been saved originally with the .PSP extension but as "PSP Animation Shop Format" That's the second down choice of formats in Photoshops "save as" drop down menu!

I just found this thread. I have been chasing this problem thru my paint groups for weeks and no one has figured it out as yet. I also have PSP images where a few show but most don't with just the PSP icon as image in Windows 7 Explorer. I think Mitchell65 has finally found the reason. Thank you Mitchell, you worked very hard on this find. So sad Microsoft did not give this more attention on the original Windows 7 build. UGH.......I get so depressed to think of all the work resaving these images. Thanks.

There is a program in this thread back a few pages that will show the psp images. add this extra info today, 1-2011.

Just found this thread too and want to thank you so much guys for trying to figure this out. I've been having the same problem as the other two posters and couldn't figure out, for the life of me, what I was doing wrong. Good to know it's not on my end. I guess I'll just have to learn to live with this problem until they find a fix for it.

Just out of curiosity, has this psp problem been resolved? I am just putting pspX on a new computer with windows7 and am having this same problem.



6/7/11....I just googled PSP THUMBNAIL HANDLER and found this one made by Bot, downloaded the 64 bit program, installed it, rebooted system and YIPPEE I see thumbnails in my psp folders. As I recall, I had this with my XP also. Hope this helps the "next guy"

I have a fix that works for me

If you can't see your images in the folder

1. Open up your version of Paint Shop Pro
2. Click File Open
3. Find the folder with your psp images, tubes, etc. in it
4. You should be able to see the thumbnails within PSP
5. Scroll down through all of the images in the folder
6. Go back to your Windows folder and click View Refresh
7. Voila, you can now see your images
8. If at some point you can't see them again, just repeat the steps above.
