Question about auto update

Hi,

I have a question about java autoupdate. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and I read that there is no autoupdate support. But I occasionally receive a java update alert that does nothing when I click on the update button. Shortly after I received a warning from firefox that said "Firefox has found out that Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U31 6.0.310.5 is causing stability or security problems." It then blocked that plugin.

I was wondering if these updates are malicious? Should I be getting them if I'm running the 64 bit version of Java? Plus nothing seems to happen when I click on them.

I also noticed that my Java is on update 27 which is a very old version, the current being 33. I subsequently updated it manually by downloading it from the website.

I apologize if this isn't the appropriate forum to ask this but I wasn't able to find a more specific forum for java questions.

Thank you for any help.

I've not heard that. What you may want to do is full scan with your updated antivirus program. Then uninstall all java from your control panel and firefox, and install the latest here: Download Free Java Software

It should give an option to autoupdate in advanced controls. Always have Java updated because this is a very easy method of attack
