Question About Registry In Windows 7

Hi everyone. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit and wanted to ask your opinion about cleaning the registry. I use Ccleaner and Glary Utilities regularly to clean my temp files, internet traces, etc., but wanted to know if you would recommend using the registry cleaner? A friend told me long ago to never delete things from the registry but I guess I want a second opinion. I haven't used the registry cleaner on either Ccleaner or Glary Utilities since I bought my PC about 8 months ago. I thought cleaning it would help speed it up possibly. Thanks for any help!

Standard opinion here is to not use registry cleaners AT ALL.

If your will power has vanished and you have to do SOMETHING, use CCleaner and accept its offer to backup the registry before making changes.

Only very rarely do we hear reports of registry cleaning actually helping performance. It's usually done to make the user feel better.

The only times old stuff in registry has any effect is when you want to install a new program and some old/broken registry entry says it is already installed, or that there is some other program like that already.

More often than not it happens when installing antivirus programs or funky drivers, so it's not something you do everyday.

Registry Cleaners usually do more damage than good, and can result in a need of a complete reinstall of Windows 7.
