Sup guy's, ive heard somewhere it was possible to create ramdrive and it could speed up your pc a lot. I have never seen that but id like to know how it works and if its possible. Ive google it a lot havent find anything useful.

There's a few options. The fastest I've discovered is a PCI-E card that you put ddr or ddr2 into, and you can mount it as a logical drive. SSD drives are also essentially ram drives. The key thing to remember is, once ram looses it's voltage, the information on it is gone. It's temporary storage. The PCI-E card has a lion battery which keeps the voltage through it. These are the fastest I know of, but your limit is bus speed.

check that out, best solution on the market atm. they're pricy, though. i would not use a ram drive for a windows installation, i would use it for whatever video game you are playing. once windows loads, bam, you're done, for the most part. You're video games and such are that which require constant loading depending on what you're doing.

A ram dive speeding up your OS is a misconception.

A ram drive has it's particular use.
I have created a 200mb ramdrive and redirected IE cache to it.
That speeds up IE a lot.

I won't speed up programs, because they are already in ram.
But if the program uses a disk cache, placing the cache on the ram drive will increase all cache intensive tasks.

PS. Don't make the ram drive so big, there isn't any ram left to work with.
Think about how much you need and how much ram you have left over under normal circumstances, before you set the size.

ok so if i usderstand correctly there is no real way to speed up my pc with ramdrive. I thought it was like puting a new hdd and making it like ram...lol im a noob at pc so this is what i had in mind but with the article provided by nasomi (thx by the way) i understand i was a fool . But im interested by the idea of puting the cache thing to speed up internet (not internet but the program ).

Install the program I mentioned.

Create a 100 or 200mb ramdrive (depending on how you've setup IE)
Create a folder on it and name it IEcache or whatever.

In IE goto extra -> Internetoptions -> browserhistory -> settings -> move folder

Browse to the fore mentioned folder, and chose ok, or apply.

That's it.

Another option is to download Portable Firefox and put it on the ramdrive. Makes browsing a whole new experience.

I think a point of clarification might be in order:

One should think of 'ramdrive' or 'ramdisk' as an "Instantaneous disk".

Not 'floppy', not 'HDD', and not SSD. Forget "drive", forget "disk":
This is Ram_Access with a little translation (and not much overheard). Instantaneous!

1. You dedicate some of your static ram to a 'pile'.
2. You name that 'pile' with a disk-drive 'letter'.

And, there ya go - "Instantaneous disk'...
Just reference the disk-drive 'letter'.

This stuff ain't 'rocket science'...

(Good for temp files and Target executables, when doing 'compiles'.)
(R/W from/to, when you want it fast: Instantaneous!)

I think you failed to read the whole thread.

There are cases where a Ramdrive comes in very handy and can do things the OS can't do.

The application (usefulness) of a RAM drive is not limited to the functionality replaced by SuperFetch. Not even close.

I have NEVER used a RAM drive to speed up a program, rather, I use them to speed up a process. I have always used a RAM drive to eliminate disk I/O from a write intensive procedure. I do a lot of data normalization - the re-order of a file record layout when transforming a data set from one database format or OS to another.

I have seen processes reduce time on task from hours to a few minutes in some cases.

When I upgrade my current platform to the next gen with 24 GB RAM, I will process my video files on a RAM drive.
