I've been experiencing random black screens of death on a HP dv5-1008ca, even after fresh re-installations of Windows 7. I've used the same copy on 2 other desktop computers i built and they dont give this error.

The copy of windows 7 is legit.

The Black SOD happens during use, and even when the computer is idle. Sometimes within a few mins of windows booting and other times hours into use.

It's a TOTAL black screen, no mouse control or Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Absolutely nothing, I can only force shutdown.

I have used system restore, only for it to happen again, i have a feeling that it has to do with windows update, i cant pinpoint which update it is exactly.

Please help this is very annoying.

Do you have a backup from before the problem started happening?

The win 7 DVD to do a repair install?

If you know when the problem started you can go back and uninstall all the win 7 updates since.

Are there DMP files? (search for *.DMP)

If so upload them to us
