Random BSOD's and memchks performed on every system boot

Hi guys,

I have been having problems with my computer recently. It seems to BSOD randomly and even worse, it's been giving me messages about corrupt files. On every system boot it seems to perform the memchks.

I attached the bsod dmp files following the guidlines set by your forums. In addition, I also included a system log of one of the memchks called My_memchk_system_log. Does anybody know why I might be getting this? Do I need to get a new hard drive? Appreciate any help!

System specs:
i5 760 at stock (recently reverted back to stock)
GTX 470
ASUS P7P55D-E LGA 1156
Seasonic 530W

Hello ruhroh.

Do some disc checks.

1. Update your SSD's Firmware (skip it, if it is not a SSD)
2. Reseat the sata and power.
3. Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
4. Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
   Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.

Scan the system for possible virus infection.

• Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
• Windows Defender Offline

I went ahead and did the chkdsk like you said. The results are attached.

I haven't ran the SeaTools that you mentioned. (don't have any blank cd's currently, if needed ill run it later this weekend)

I instead ran the WD lifeguard tool. It detected some errors but wasn't able to fix them.

I also ran the TDSSKiller but it detected no problems.

Anyway, I noticed that ram prices were really low so I went ahead and bought 8GB to upgrade my current system which has 4 GB. Dunno if that helps..

As it is some hard drive error, increment in the volume of RAM will not help here directly, but it should increase the performance overall.

Do you have another storage where you can store your documents? If so, store them all. then ....

Ok thanks for those links. I do have an external hd that i can use to store all my docs. I actually have done so since my computer's been crashing. Do you think it's worthwhile to invest in a new HD right now given that black friday is tomorrow?

Also, is it possible that avast antivirus is causing this? I just tried to do an update and it failed and BSOD'ed. I just realized that I haven't been able to update my Avast antivirus in a while.. I don't know if there's any correlation between Avast and my BSODS.

Dump data is not saying anything against Avast .... usually it is a good one, but sometimes it causes issues. As a check you may uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Then use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

As far as I can say, the HDD needs a formatting. Hopefully it will be cured after that.

So I was hoping that I could hold out until my school semester finished before I had to reinstall windows. Unfortunately, my desktop pc (the one that I was having problems with) crashed yesterday and I can't boot from it anymore. It just does memchks all the time it boots up. If I try to do safe mode it will crash. I can't do any of my system restores either (never bothered burning a restore point to an iso either).

I guess I need to reinstall Windows now. I have a question though. I got a SSD that I was planning on reinstalling Windows 7 on and using my HD for my other junk (my Windows 7 was previously installed on the HD). So if I reinstall the OS on my ssd, I can still retrieve my data from my HD, is that right? I don't really have anything important on there just some saved games (i backed up most of my stuff last week in case something like this happened).

Also, how important is this guide: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91339-ssd-hdd-optimize-windows-reinstallation.html . I can't really follow it now since my pc won't boot..

First, yes you can access all your data stored in a separate HDD.

Second, this guide is good, but as a first time installation, you need not to follow it. Format the SSD using the installation Disc only.

I installed Windows 7 on my ssd and boot from it now. It still detects corrupted files on my old hd. Should I just wipe all the data on there? Is there a tool you recommend to do this?
