Re installing Windows 7 - retrieval of Updates

My PC has Intel motherboard DG31PR, Core 2 duo, 2 GB memory, 325 GB HD. I installed Windows three years back. After that many updates were automatically installed till yesterday. I now find my Windows has
started developing nad sectors, and of and on giving error messages. I run "SFC /scannow" to temporarily solve the errors. However, SFC many times says some errors could not be repaired.
My question is, is it possible to retrieve updates already available in my HD, format my HD, reinstall Windows 7, and then finally re-install updates already retrieved; or have I to download all these updates (running to a few GBs) from the date of first installation of Windows 7 three years ago.

Could you sure but it is not the best way. Any problems with those updates would be transferred to your new install.

I recommend just doing a clean install and let Windows Updates do it's thing. We all know it will take some time.

You could read through this tutorial by Brink and see if it suites your needs better.
You will still have to do the Windows Updates.

How much free space do you have on the C drive/partition?

If your HD is showing bad sectors, then it is dying.
You need to back up your data to external media NOW - then worry about anything else.

NoelDP is correct, you may only have hours. Backup the best way you can all your created and downloaded files. Hopefully you can make an Image backup as well.
