Realtek HD Audio Drivers - Constantly detecting/undetecting front jack

Hello all,

I rercently came with the following problem without any reason:

I have a realtek audio chipset with my mother board.

Since some time, the HD audio drivers keeps on detecting/undetecting a device plugged in my front jack (resulting is sound cutoff, which is more than annoying). But, there is nothing plugged.

If I plug something then, the detection works right.

I'm wondering if it is a software problem, or if there is something wrong with my motherboard or my front jack connector (some kind of shortcut or whatever).

If someone as a solution I would really appreciate.

I cannot uncheck the "reload" option in the realtek driver because I need to have this detection working right.

Sounds like a loose or defective jack. No software will "fix" broken hardware. When nothing is in the jack, it's grounded and the chipset ignores or turns off the jack. When you plug something into it, the open ground signals the chipset to detect a device and notify Windows of it's presents. Windows (driver) will then allow you task the jack as necessary.

You don't give any info on your system but some manufactures have spare parts available. Most front panel assemblies are replaceable. Also make sure the front panel connections aren't loose at the motherboard. Be sure to completely power-down the PC and un-plug the power cord before checking wires inside.

So I did several checks:

• If I plug nothing it detects/undetects
• If I plug something in either micro in or speakers out (green or pink) it works nicely.
• Then, I've unplugged the HD Audio cable from my motherboard: it work nicely (it stops to detects/undetects)
• Then, if I plug this cable on the motherboard but disconnect it on the front jack side, it starts to detect/undetect.

I don't know which kind of diagnostic I can made from these tests (maybe a bad cable)...


FYI, I have a Fractal Design Define R3 - Black Pearl and a Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 for the Motherboard.

It could be a bad cable connector or loose pin on the motherboard. Check the wires carefully too.

So, the pins seems to be OK. They are not moving.

It's hard to say if the cable is right. At first sight, all the wires seems to be connected to the connector (they are not loose).


Besides, I've noticed that if I plug the AC97 part of the cable instead of the HD Audio one, the problem is gone.

I hope it's a cable problem and not a motherboard one. Am I right?

It sounds like a cable or cable connector problem.

I will try to see if I can get a cable replacement from Fractal Design.

Simple solution

Open Real Teck manager
click speakers
Right click green button (that is my connection yours may be different)
Choose "connector retasking"
at the bottom of the page you will see "enable auto popup dialog"
Disable it and you are set to go.
....................
The newer version of Realtek manager is different.
But is basically the same. Look for - "enable auto popup dialog" and disable it!!
