Not sure what is up, but I purch this PC from Best Buy 2 years ago and out of the blue today, received the message in my thread title. I tried to verify the W7 program on my pc on line and it says it is not genuine. Googled this issue and can't seem to find any solutions.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Researched this a bit more and found a program called jelly bean that was supposed to have found my product key. Well, I unplugged my pc, pulled it out and found the W7 product key on the side. Slowly wrote this number down twice and what jelly bean reported and what the sticker say are completely different. Ughhhh. This only happened after being prompted to update my machine.
Thank you

Hi,

That implies that you installation on your system is not the one 'tied' to the COA sticker that you found on the side of the machine. Which version of Windows 7 (Home Premium etc.) is printed on the COA sticker?

Regards,
Golden

Thank you, for reply. The sticker says Windows 7 Home Premium. I have noticed since this began yesterday that programs like MS SEcurity Esssentials doesn't run, trying to uninstall/reinstall doesn't work either. I am at a loss

It is not unusual for the product key reported by a produt key retrieval tool to be different from the one on a COA sticker. If I recall most OEMs use some kind of mass activation key to keep from having to activate each computer manually.

To resolve this issue, I recommend trying to activate the computer using the product key on the COA sticker. To do this, open the start menu, right click Computer, and select properties. In the window that opens, scroll down and you should see a link that says "Activate Windows Now" or "Change Product Key". Either one will work. In the window that opens, type in the product key on the sticker. There is a chance that it will fail to activate this way. If so, choose the option that says "Use the automated phone system to activate". For futher steps, please see the tutorial below.

Thank you, to all who helped. Spoke w/ MS tech support and since the key on my pc wasn't valid and what jely bean found wasn't either they issued me a new product key! FWIW- never pleasant being asked to repeat same thing over and over (name, situation)etc to various levels of tech support but overall very pleased with how MS handled this for me.
