I am an amateut musician.

I want to record on my laptop. and then mixdown on my desktop.

I thought it was a bright idea, and a no-brainer to network, and to share files.

I thought it was something that would not be a big deal and that I could set-up myself.

I have been told: it is very difficult. it is a terrible idea. I've never seen a homegroup work. ever.
you need a phd in physics to get it set up. it will take a very very long time to set up.

my room is set up with my rackgear (compressors, pre-amps....) on one side of the room and my desktop on the other.
I was so happy when I thought of the idea of setting up a network.

I have been reading for a couple days now.
and now I am looking for thoughts from you folks.

is it a bad idea? is it that hard to set up.
I have read of people setting up networks and having lots of problems.

I just skimmed the tutorial here. it does not lokk too bad at all.

(I actually tried it several months ago. it did not work. at all. but things are different now. I know a little more for one thing.)

note: I have windows 7 64 bit, professional on the desktop, home premium on the laptop. 8GB ram i7 on the desktop, 6GB ram i5 on the laptop.

any comments or advice welcome.

thanks alot,
Charlie

Setting up a Homegroup is in fact the easiest thing in the world although certain A/V's and third party firewalls will cause problems and the router being used needs to be up to date.

Most every problem associated with setting up a Homegroup is covered in the link below. :)
