I have a new Lenovo laptop with OEM Win7 Pro (64bit) -- 1TB HDD
- all I have done so far is charge the battery and booted ... nothing else ... (no updates, no installs ... yet!)

I assume the spinner has an OEM recovery partition
- when I create a Recovery Media (disc or USB ?) ... I have never done it before ... is the OEM Recovery partition also "saved" as part of the Recovery media ?
My 2 year old Toshiba is in bad shape because of my ignorance.
- since joining sevenforums.com I have followed various tutes about SandBox, Imaging, Recovery, and Repair without actually doing any of them
- with the new Lenovo I would like to do a planned/considered setup before I start using the new PC
First ... Recovery and Repair discs
- this article by Andy Rathbone has helped me to understand I need both Recovery Disc and Repair Disc

Am I better off with USB thumb drive or DVDs ... which will last longer ?
- I plan on Win7 lasting me for the next 20 years ;) I wish !

Is there anything I should know or do before creating those "media" ?

Thank you :)

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Laptop. Its several years old, but when I first got it I created the recovery media (discs). The discs are supposed to allow restoring, even if you have a hard drive failure. I don't think it will include the recovery partition.

If you want to make a backup that contains all the partitions on the hard drive, a program such as Macrium Reflect is needed to make a "backup" of the entire hard drive to either another hard drive or possibly USB media.
