RegCurePro: Is it reliable???

I've been having some issues with my PC and another forum suggest installing RegCurePro. I did install it and let it do its thing but I did not hit the "fix all" button. Is this associated with MicroSoft and is it reliable or recommended.

Any help is appreciated.

shiflerg, I don't recommend programs like that. What problems are you having? Fill in your system specs using the link in my sig and describe the problems you are having.

That's always bugged me, seeing that Microsoft label on those sites.

You'll get a lot of replies about this, these programs just cause problems.

As far as I know Microsoft has never recommended a registry cleaner, tuneup program of any kind.

If it was my computer I would remove RegCurePro reboot and then do this. Please read and follow instructions exactly.

If you have any problems after doing the above suggestion go to a restore point before you installed
RegCurePro.

At one time Microsoft had available for download an unsupported product known as "Regclean". I gather it was intended for advanced users and developers who understood what they were doing. Most registry cleaners today are used by people who have only the vaguest idea of what the registry is. A registry cleaner has some value when used by an expert for solving a specific problem, but in the hands of a novice the risks far outweigh the questionable benefits.

Regclean was last updated in 1998, prior to the release of Windows 98. It was later withdrawn because it created problems with some Microsoft products, which admittedly were released after the last update of Regclean. It is no longer available from Microsoft but widely available from other download sites. Many people are probably using with Windows 8 and believing it is safe.

Microsoft does not include a registry cleaner with any of it's operating systems because it is not needed. The registry is a database so the analogy of cleaning is flawed at best. The errors they fix are usually of no consequence while the mistakes they make can have serious consequences. They are best avoided.

Regarding the above post by derikimo:
For some organizations the clam of being a "Microsoft Partner" was at one time true but later withdrawn by Microsoft because of questionable or dishonest business practices. In others it is an outright fraud.

LMiller7, while I mostly agree with your post, I have found CCleaner to be reliable, and has solved many issues when applying reg fixes for clients. Some agree, and some don't, I myself find it reliable and safe to use.

I have no issues with the use of a registry cleaner by someone who understands what they are doing. But the fact remains that most have no idea. In such hands a registry cleaner is dangerous.

A registry cleaner is a tool that must be understood if it is to be used effectively. In the hands of a skilled surgeon a scalpel can be a life saving tool. In the hands of a novice it is anything but.

I uninstalled it and actually went thru the suggestion of doing sfc /scannow. I did this and nothing was amiss. I'm now in the process of checking out some hardware connections. It appears to be something associated with the usb mouse. My wife found the problem when playing Spider Solitaire. The screen would seem to hang up after hearing a sound as if something new had just taken place (adding a piece of hardware). I'm suspcious of the mouse. I'm moving it to the front of my pc to see if the problem goes away.

What I have learned!!! Don't install any of these clean PC programs.
