Reinstall Win7 what updates to avoid for telemetry & winX preparation?

Hi Marie,
Attached is a cmd file to uninstall the telemetry KB.

If you want to update your Win 7 computer, use Simplix
My suggestion is to set Services - Windows Update - Manual and on WU page set it to Never check.
Then run UpdatePack7R2
Simplix is a single file (850MB) that contain all updates since Win 7 released up to date. It has all security and non security updates without the trash (telemetry and tracking). Very good.
Then run WU manually to find updates for Office etc and decide witch one to install.

Hi Megahertz07 :-)

Okay? doesn't simplix contain spectre/meltdown security updates?

Windows update is set to never check since I got win7 yeeeeears ago ;)
I learn that lesson on windows 98SE the hard way with blue screen and trashed OS with reinstall as consequences.. or if it was win2000... however, it was a looooong time ago :D:D:D:D:D

The tracking and telemetry do i have under control, both in win7 and win8.1 But thanks for the tip anyway.
It is this spectre and meltdown that i haven't figured out yet.

Edit:
I don't install monthly quality updates or monthly preview updates........ I don't trust them:picnic:

Okay, SIW2 has done much good for this forum members. and I like his style and knowledge. :-)

maybe no one in here has the full knowledge about the security only updates, spectre/meltdown impact on old computers performance loss..... which updates to avoid and which ones that works without impact on the performance

I've used Simplix on a Sandy bridge (2nd gen) laptop after a clean Win 7 pro install. No problems at all.
Also used to update other computer that was very outdated. No problem at all.

used SIMPLIX UpdatePack7R2-20.3.12.exe on i6

Hi everyone,

Recently I had to install Windows 7 x64 ultimate on a newer machine which does not support win. From 6th gen and beyond there is no support of various things to install Win7. for example USB3 drivers.

When trying to install Win7, after setup starts, there was no activity further. Keyboard/Mouse inactive. somehow I integrated drivers in my install USB and then Win 7 installation went smoothly.

Now I had two issues.
1- install all updates till date: 20.03.2020 but without the crap of telemetry, data collection, forced windows 10 upgrade offer and many other things like this.
2- make sure activation remains permanent

for step -1 I tried convenience and Roll up updates but issues of privacy remained. Then I again clean installed Win 7 and run SIMPLIX UpdatePack7R2-20.3.12.exe to install all updates till date. It took approx an hour and three restarts. At last I got these updates installed:

Now I want to make sure my system is update at latest, clean out of privacry, telemetry, win10 by force or other such things. Once confirmed I will lock any further updates and changes because this machine will be used for one specific software only and will not have any other uses.

Ok I checked on M$ website KB4540688 dated March 10, 2020 is a Monthly Rollup update. It means all latest updates have been installed in my system.

So please someone guide me how to check my installed update list does not include safe from telemetry, data collection, forced windows 10 upgrade offer and many other things like this.

Also is someone can give hint on Windows activation status, how to check it is permanent activated or
when expiring

Thanks

Thanks

Hi :-)

If you install monthly rollup updates through windows update then you will get telemetry and other junk stuff.
If you want to be sure not to get any junk, then you should stick to security only updates.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...sp1-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1-update-history

When it comes to seeing which updates are installed, open Control panel then Programs and Features and then click on “View installed updates” in the upper left of the window.
Select an update you want to remove and click Uninstall.

regarding SIMPLIX UpdatePack7R2-20.3.12.exe then I have no experience, it's SIW2 domain :-)

If you used Simplix that has been achieved.

2- make sure activation remains permanent

If you have a legitimate windows 7 license, activation sould be permanent.

If you do not have a legitimate windows 7 license, you need to get one.

Thanks for answering.
Yeah I checked installed update list and found KB4540688 dated March 10, 2020 so it is up to date updated.

Now how to figure out those unwanted, telemetry, data collecting, get win 10, privacy concerend etc. etc. related updates and how to uninstall those specific ones only?

Simplix doesn't include them.
Unless you installed them separately, you haven't got them.

Thanks, but would it be better to use script of Maries be aware list provided by dg1261 in post#32 ?
and another script provided by Megahertz07 Post#100 ?

Specially the script from dg1261 contains 130 hotfixes to uninstall, he listed from Marie SWE watch list in post #30

Because after SIMPLIX update, I do find some hotfixes listed in dg1261 script and also some listed in Megahertz07 script.

Just want to confirm about uninstalling those after SIMPLIX hotfixes that are mathching in above mentioned two scripts.

Is there a full list of all the Bad Updates listed here compiled somewhere? I'm trying to give my PC its first REAL update in years (last time was on late 2016...), and I'm having a bit of a hard time locating all the posts.

Thanks in advance.

To uninstall the telemetry, run cmd file to uninstall those KB files.
kb_spy.cmd.txt
Rename it as KB_Spy.cmd and run it.

Wow. That is quite a list. I just bought a Win 7 pro refurb and allowed it to run all updates to bring it current. I'm unclear though. Is the idea that uninstalling any of these updates that may have installed in this computer will remove any Win10 style telemetry? I avoided upgrading to Win 10 ever since it was first released specifically to avoid the data collection, and was furious when I found that MS just snuck it into Win 7 and 8 via updates. Would love to get rid of it if I can do it without negatively impacting the functionality of my computer.

kb_spy.cmd.txt
Rename it as KB_Spy.cmd and run it.

Just to double check, since I have not updated many years now and previously used lists to avoid "bad" updates.

So all I need is to run Simplex and I'm good with the final list of updates for Win7 without any telemetry? Or should I run the script as well?

Run Simplix and it will install the updates you don't have.
Run kb_spy.cmd to uninstall the telemetry already installed.
