Remove Grub - Restore Windows 7

Thank You. This saved my day after start up repair decided I no longer needed a debian partition. No more dual-boot on the same drive for me. I'll use a virtual machine or separate box for linux.

Thanks again. It is a excellent write up.
Thank you hitchup, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums!

Glad to know this info can still "save the day!"

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

Sorry to bump this thread again after almost 2 moths, but I have to say that the info in this thread are really helpful. And I have to say thanks first to the author of it.

But I have noticed in the provided example that there is some unallocated space at the beginning of the HD with a size of 1 MB just before the first primary partition and there is also another unallocated space of 1.52 MB inside the extended partition which separates the Windows systems files from Linux.
My question: Is there a benefit from leaving that space like protecting the beginning of the HD for example or it was just there by mistake? so what is the purpose of the 2 spaces?

And again sorry to bump the thread again.
regards

Hello messitnt, welcome to Windows Seven Forums!

Thanks for your kind words, and taking time to let us know you found the site helpful.

As to your question, I believe what you are seeing is a result of what is called "Partition Alignment". Windows does this on purpose during the installation of Windows 7, for example. I was not able to find a simple explanation for you, but I would suggest you Google "Partition Alignment" as I did and read up on the topic to your satisfaction.

Cheers!
Robert

My approach for double booting with a Windows 7/8 installation is different.

Make an image of the system partition (which contains the bootmgr) before you make the double boot installation.

Then if you want to get rid of the double booted OS, restore that image and reformat the partition that contains the double booted OS.

That whole operation takes only a couple of minutes and is one of the advantages of having a system partition.

I spent hours trying to fix my Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit MBR. I tried all sorts of solutions but nothing worked...except for yours! One thing you should do before applying the solution - unplug all the drives expect the boot drive where my windows installation is located.

Thank you very much for posting this!

Boot manager is missing when above procedure was tred

I followed the stops above and on reboot god book manager is missing error.

I can still boot to win 7 now but only by using the F11 boot loader option and selecting it manually.

What next?

UPDATE:

I tried the help here at: Bootmgr is missing - Fix

I went through all the above steps a the link for my Win 7 installed on C drive. All the feedback was as shown in help screens and all seemed correct but when trying to reboot I get a blank screen with blinking cursor that just stays there. I can still boot to Windows by manual selection from the correct option list in the F11 menu.
