Solved 'Repair your computer' option boots into Windows regular mode

I have a Dell Studio 1555, win 7 Home Premium. I am trying to restore the system to Factory default. After pressing F8 at startup, when I select 'Repair your computer', it boots into regular Windows.

I think it has something to do with the Partition identifiers? Please help.

Welcome to SevenForums. What are you trying to do exactly. Have you changed something in your bios and you want to return to factory default or has an issue developed and you want to restore back to before it began in hopes of correcting as they are two very separate issues?

open an elevated command and type:

bcdedit /enum ALL >c:\mybcd.txt

Then post up mybcd.txt.

I just want to get it back to factory defaults, since i'm giving away this laptop to someone.

Why not just remove your data and any programs and if happy with it's performance now turn it over to the new owner as is?
Otherwise why don't you just wipe the hard drive and do a complete re-install with your HP OS and drivers disks and call it a day......ok a full day !

I don't have OS disks, therefore need to boot from the recovery partition to restore to factory settings. There are issues with the system (intermittent problems), like freezing etc.

You'll only need your product key and then visit Dell for the drivers and any other misc and the rig will be a clean running machine ! May not want to sell it then.......?

There are many reasons the F8 link to System Recovery Options gets broken. With Dell you can restore it this way: Dell Recovery Partition - restoring F8 link

With Dell you can also manually Boot Recovery Partition using EasyBCD which will recover to factory settings including F8 link.

Sorry, my problem is, this laptop doesn't have a coa sticker anywhere. It's all faded. So, I don't have a serial number.

Thanks everyone. I ended up using Magical Jelly Key Finder to get the key. I had a Windows 7 Home Prem. DVD for Refurbished computers, used it to install Windows. Everything works great now.
