I was attempting to reset windows 8 on a lap top ok. monitor is cracked so they have a tv hooked up as the monitor. Now i went to reset windows 8, and clicked on where it says to click here to wipe out the entire hard drive, this will take some time. Well after I did that, the monitor goes out and it appears as though it deleted the partitions, which is not really a problem right now, BUT we cant get ANY monitor to work to see what the computer is saying. We've connected both VGA and HDMI cables and still it says no signal on the tv screen. Any ideas on what to do? can do an OS reinstall until the monitor works now. I cannot get into the bios because the monitor(s) is not getting a signal from the lap top. Please someone help, thank you

There should be a key to press to switch from internal to external monitor. It will be one of the F keys across the top. You likely have to press Fn and that F key.

I would not think they would be able to do that through with the initial setup screen.

Maybe take the hdd out, install windows 8 on it and put it back in the laptop?

Also this might help for later:

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create

It did occur to me that it may only work from Windows. I wasn't 100% sure so I figured it couldn't hurt to try anyway.

Based on that my guess is it would be Fn + F4. Don't be surprised if it doesn't do anything, as Andrew mentioned, it might only work from Windows itself. I haven't used that key function on my laptop enough to know one way of the other. It may need a driver or utility install to work.
