Restart hang Up

Hi, I was hoping for a little help. I am running Windows 7 Home 64 bit and am having a problem with restarts. Anytime my HP Pavilion DV 7 has to restart or comes out of hibernation it will freeze up at the "Press Esc key for Start Up Menu" screen. If I powere the unit off and back on it will start up normally.

I spent over three hours on the phone with HP support giving them access to my PC and no fix. We tried a restore 6 months back long before problem, disabling all start up programs unnecessary, check hard disk for errors, start up repair, made sure all updates done, etc.

At this point they want to do a clean install but it is hard for me to believe since it reboots fine when powered off that the problem cannot be fixed. At this point I just put it in sleep mode and only have aproblem when an update makes me restart.

Anybody heard of the problem and can offer any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html to check for corrupted Windows files? It may need to be run up to three times to fix all errors. If the first run finishes with no integrity violations proceed to the next step (repair install). If you still have errors after a fourth run, look at OPTION THREE of that tutorial and the tip within that option.

You can do a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html instead of a clean install, which would leave your program files and user files intact and only replace the Windows files. If this sounds possible for you, let us know, and we can help.
