run at startup

program usage agent has option to run at startup(i can see with msconfig, that it has a listing to run at startup) but it wont work. Tried shortcut in start up folder and still nothing. Made sure that program was running under no compatibility, with compatibility (winxp service pack 2) and still nothing. Original programmer retired this program and no official updates are available (circa 9.0.7.0.) Program is now maintained by volunters at whirlpool (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/) upto 9.0.7.7. I am currently running manually aftert every rebooot, soo any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are a few ways to run an app at startup. First, see the methods in this tut.

If those dont work, then do the following:

Open your registry and find the key

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run].

For each program you want to start automatically create a new string value using a descriptive name, and set the value of the string to the program executable. For example, to automatically start Notepad, add a new entry of "Notepad"="c:\windows\notepad.exe".

i have come across programs that do not start with there own start up buttons so i always use this way if i have trouble remember to un tick the programs built in button !!

Sysinternals Suite
go to this microsoft site and download sysinternals suite and it has a program called Autoruns for Windows v10.04
you can see exactly what is running and stop things and start things also the other programs in the suite are excellent to

Dude, if you had read the excellent tutorial I linked, you would have seen the task scheduler method (Method 6 on that page). But then, nobody reads these days....

thats a great tutorial by brink bill2 but with sysinternals autorun it makes it that bit easy
