Well after giving the drivers a month I have about had it with the popping and other sound quality issues from my otherwise great working SB Audigy 2. Yes I have tried Daniel K's drivers. Well I decided to give my Motherboard's built-in HD audio another try. So far so good. I was none too impressed under XP Pro with it but so far so good.
After tweaking for Quadraphonic sound music sounds great with it. Even when turned up to 11.
Also I left the Audigy 2 installed on my motherboard. Oddly Windows 7 can handle multiple sound card sources.
HD audio on Intel's "not supported in Windows 7" 975XBX2 seems like a valid option.
