Hello,

Brightness keys inoperable, Screen Brightness Adjustment Bar Missing and Screen is dim.
This started by doing the following.
I downloaded the AMD "Automatically Detect and Install Your Driver" software.
It then installed a AMD VISION Engine Control Center.
I thought it would just tell me what I needed to install, but it installed the AMD VISION Engine Control Center.
Which I do not want.
The computer previously had ATI Catalyst Control Center.
After a couple days I noticed the screen was dim.
I tried the brightness keys and they were inoperable.
And screen brightness adjustment bar is missing in power options.
I reboot and it comes back, but after computer comes out of sleep mode problem returns.

After the install, I also notice in windows update there was a optional update:
ATI Technologies Inc. - Display - AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
Download size: 24.1 MB
You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.
Update type: Optional
ATI Technologies Inc. Display software update released in September, 2010
I hid it, not knowing if it was needed.

What do I have to do to uninstall AMD VISION Engine Control Center and return to the ATI Catalyst Control Center?

This all started because the lower right hand corner of the keyboard was getting warm,
that is where the southbridge chip is located.
I thought if I updated the SMBus it might cool it down.
The device manager says, No drivers are installed for this device.
I was trying to update a ATI I/O Communications Processor SMBus Controller drivers.
Speed fan temperatures are all good.

The computer is a HP G62 407DX,
Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
HP Available software Page

Any help appreciated,
Thanks

Uninstall the Vision package from the computer using Programs and Features, then run the AMD driver update package again and choose "Uninstall"

Once you've done that, go back to that HP link that you have in your original post and download that most recent graphics driver for your laptop and install that. And do not use any other graphics driver but that one. Laptops are not normal PCs. You should only use the drivers from the manufacturer as they have been tweaked to take advantage of the modified hardware in a laptop.

I uninstalled the AMD Catalyst Install Manager in Programs and Features.
Near the end of uninstalling the AMD Catalyst Install Manager, it asked if I wanted to uninstall the install manager.
I clicked yes.
Then I ran the AMD driver update package (AMD calls it, "AMD Driver Autodetect tool") again and clicked "Uninstall".
It said "That there was no components to uninstall.

The AMD Driver Autodetect tool is still on the desktop.
How do I uninstall AMD Driver Autodetect tool?
There are no AMD programs in Programs and Features.

The AMD VISION Engine Control Center was uninstalled.
There is no ATI Catalyst Control Center.

Device manager shows:
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
ATI Technologies Inc. 9/29/2010 version 8.770.2.2000
Which looks like what was there before the install.

Before uninstalling I think there were two duplicate AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 display drivers showing in Device manager.
Is that possible? Now there is one.
The AMD Catalyst Install Manager must have not uninstalled the previous graphics software before installing its graphics software.

I do have the HP graphics drivers on the desktop but have not installed them yet.
Should I uninstall this,
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
ATI Technologies Inc. 9/29/2010 version 8.770.2.200
using device manager, before installing the HP graphics drivers that are on the desktop?

Since you are going to be installing newer graphics drivers than what you have in the laptop already, it's probably a good idea to uninstall that driver, reboot, and then install the new driver package.

And please make a system restore point before uninstalling the current driver. Just in case there are problems.

I created a system restore point before installing.
I did not uninstall the AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 using the device manager.
I installed the HP graphics drivers that are on the desktop.

The ATI catalyst control center is missing.
It looks like the HP graphics drivers that are on the desktop did not replace the AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 drivers because its date is 9/29/2010 and the HP graphics drivers that are on the desktop is Feb 18, 2011.
There are no issues with the computer at the moment. Just the ATI catalyst control center is missing.

I'm afraid that if I uninstall the AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 using the device manager.
I will not have a functioning display.

The detail about the HP graphics drivers on HP's site says;
This package provides the AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and Catalyst Control Center for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. For notebooks with switchable graphics modes, this package includes drivers for both graphics processing units (GPUs). Switchable graphics enable users to switch between a power-saving graphics mode (normally used under battery power) and a high-performance graphics mode. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver.

The HP graphics drivers package includes the Catalyst Control Center.
I do not understand why it is not installing..

I have uninstalled reinstalled a couple times with no change.
I downloaded the HP graphics drivers package again and installed again still no change.

Any ideas appreciated.
