Searching in System Protection - No drives show

I have a slightly different problem. When I go to the System Protection tab under available drives all I get is searching, it does not show the drives.

Hi,,

I have the same problem. When I go to the "System Protection" tab of System Properties, the "Protection Settings/ Available Drives" just shows "Searching....." I can't figure out how to get it to see Drive C and allow me to check the box!

JosephS....can you please let me know how you fixed it??? I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium on a system that I upgraded (clean install) from Windows XP.

What was the solution to this? I have the same issue. Sits there searching for drives. All I have is C:.

I also have the same problem, I was having a problem getting FTM 2010 to install and the tech I was working with instructed my to run 'cleanup_tool' and then reinstall the .NET fiels. I had created a restore point just prior so it was working fine then. After running the cleanup tool file I found that I could not get system protection to run - like the others above it sits there searching for drives and all there is activated is C:.
Now when if it tries a Windows Update it hangs trying to create a restore point.
I tried a system file check but in found no integrity violations.
How can I get it back to where it was?

1) Run CMD as admin and at the command prompt type: sfc /sacnnow. Then hit enter. See if that resolves your problem.

2) Can you see the drives in System protection while in safe mode?

3) As a side thought, while in windows, turn off your antivirus app, then try.

Appreciate the activity on this thread. I have not been able to solve issue on my system.

- same behavior in safe mode and with (norton) antivirus off.

- running sfc /scannow - I get this console message:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. (tail of the CBS.log file is below... it looks like there is some issue with tcpmon.ini...)

Hope someone comes up with a fix. I also ran SFC and disabled CA Security, but System Protection is still "Searching"
