Security updates not installing

Again sorry for my lack of understanding, what should I be doing to
rename C:\Windows\Assembly folder
?

Rename C:\Windows\Assembly to C:\Windows\Assemby.old (but do not remove this folder!) ,you can also try uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 and install Microsoft Visulal C++ 2008SP1 as I said previous. If really nothing help for you only leave repair install http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html or again visit Microsoft Support :( .No more idea.

I've tried uninstalling C++ and replacing it with the newest version - no luck
I tried uninstalling all nikon software, which did not affect anything, I've reset the iwndows update compnents as advised in this thread which also gave no results, and when I tried to run FixWU (as adivsed in the thread) the downloaded application instantly freezes up and I am faced with the 'program not responding' message.

Thank you for your help, it seems this is possibly an issue with my computer, as I reinstalled (rather than doing a fix install) and the same errors seem to reccur (aside from the C++ one which may have bee a side effect of the fixes by the MS Tech support team, although I have no evidence for this other than in a clean install I can install applications that require it like the Nikon software, and the Nokia Ovi Suite).

For now I will turn update notifications off but I will continue to look for a fix. If it gets found I will return to this thread, and write up how I acheived the fix, however at the present time this seems unlikely.

Thankyou for you continued help, it has beenm much appreciated,

Civ.

Okay, I decided to give up on this issue, and after that I did the following:

installed MS Office, AVG, Windows live messenger etc (previously i had had nothing installed other than C++2008SP1 and firefox), and I had something like 33 updates available, mostly MS office updates and a C++ update. So I shut down th computer after this to go to the pub to watch England just miss a six nations win :( but I came back and turned on the pc after it had done all its attempted (I assumed) updates, and the ones that had been causing me problems have been installed, leaving only one which was deselected by default.

EDIT
I just tried to install the one, and on failing it revealed the others which had failed to install previously. Oh well. Case NOT closed after all

I think we can put a lid on this now, I was getting so frustrated, I decided to do a repair install, and was unable to get it to work (some error message i don't recall) but anyway, I did a clean reinstall, on a freshly partitioned hard drive, and all th eupdates that were avilable were installed, so hopefully that wikll be the end of that issue. Its weird, but I don't know what it could have been that caused the problem :S

Thanks to everyone who helped, especially Flavius :)
