Service pack 1 fails - error 80073712

Hello guys! I am having trouble installing sp1 despite other windows updates having been flawless so far. I tried following instructions found at the Windows site but the System Update Readiness Tool didn't find any errors and repair installation aborts. Sorry to bother you with another "sp1 fail" thread but I have exhausted my search options for solution here and in other sites, which makes this request for help my last resort.

Well done for researching, and doing what you could by yourself

Please create a new folder on your Desktop called LOGS.

Copy into that new folder the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder, and the C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log file.

Right click on your new LOGS folder > Send to > Compressed (Zipped) folder, and upload it here for me.

I forgot to mention that I tried System file checker and /verifyonly stops at 99% with the message "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation", while /scannow only does 98% and then reports no problems.

Well done on doing that! Could you please zip up (copy to Desktop first) C:\Windows\winsxs\pending.xml, and upload that here as well, and then we can try something

I had this problem with Windows 7 x64, took me ages to fix it. I had to use the "System Update readiness tool" and copy some files from another PC. Full details of the fix are at Fix Windows Update or Service Pack error 80073712 - DIY Media Home
