Solved SFC cannot repair files

Seems I was hasty - there's nothing odd about the versioning ;)

I've uploaded a file - bhvac.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive

Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract

Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'

Pick that

You'll have to log in with your username and password.
Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type

DIR C:\bhvac

hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try

DIR D:\bhvac

or

DIR E:\bhvac

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

XCOPY <drive>:\bhvac <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type

EXIT

and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt

then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

It appears to be OK now. I checked the driver updates with one not showing as installed, so I redid that one. I have done a couple of restarts & rerun SFC a couple of times and it still says no problems.

Thanks for checking back.

Noel, where would be a good place to read about the SFC and CBS logs, how to interpret them to decide what needs to be done to fix the problems?

Sorry for the delayed response!...
It all depends how deep you want to go into it - Sysnative has a school, while there are some tutorials here in SF (a little hard to get into, and I must see about trying to update them, if the PTBs will let me).
SFC logs are generally pretty simple - it's the background CBS.log data that can get complex.
CheckSUR logs again are generally fairly easy, but can get very complex - without the background knowledge it's very easy to make mistakes with anything other than simple file replacements.

I didn't realize Sysnative had a school. I'll check into that. Thanks Noel.
