Should I install and Java 64-bit?

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and all the browsers are 64-bit. I just noticed that the installed Java is 32-bit. Should I install and the 64-bit?

P.S. How can I say if the Internet Explorer is 32-bit or 64-bit?

Hi Balema, The only way I know to check if IE11 is 64 bit is to right click in the task bar, start task manager

show processes from all users, if iexplore.exe does not show 32 beside it, it is the 64 bit version.

I do not know much about Java, but the link below from Java has all the information.

If you have Windows 7 64 bit installed, Internet Explorer will be 64 bit, as it's part of the Windows 7 installation.

Hi, It is to my understanding that if you install OSx64 you will have both IE x86 and IE x64 installed.
(Have a look in both Program Files)
IE x86 is used by default until you go to Options/Security and select x64.
Install x86 Java.
Also I see no reason why you can not install both x86 and x64 Java.
Just always uninstall old versions.

At the processes at the task manager it has and with *32 iexplorer.exe and one without (I have 5 tabs open). When I first launch it, it has one with *32 and one without. What does this mean? At Program Files I can find only one that says Internet Explorer. At the Internet that I searched I think I should have find and one that says Internet Explorer (64-bit).

MeOnMine when you say IE x86 is used by default until you go to Options/Security and select x64. What exactly do you mean? Are you reffering to enable Protected mode? Because I have it enabled.

Generally, you guys, that you have 64-bit browsers have you bothered installing and the 64-bit of Java?

I don't install Java at all. There have been too many security issues with it so it is not for me.

If you do have Java installed, make sure that you keep up with all security updates.

Belema, I am no expert with browsers but as far as I understand it is only for security that x64 IE is a benefit for.
Just install both Java.
I usually let the PC owner make their own decisions on what to install as we live to learn.
However Mellon Head is completely right in that there is no reason to even install Java. ( I to have not used it in years )
Adobe Flash is also walking out the door and Silverlight ain't much chop either.
The browser scenario is at present morphing.

I un-installed Java years ago and have never had a problem where I needed it.
I stopped using IE a long time ago and find that Chrome is must better,faster and has more options and available plug-ins..
