shut down

Any thoughts about why my Win7 pro. has started shutting down if left on with no action for about an hour or more? Unable to open by moving the mouse as before or any other action. After hard close and turning back on and allowing "normal startup", it comes back on and runs with no problems. This started about a week or 10 days ago. Have checked power settings and run a trouble shooter, and nothing found.

I am also just wondering if the hard driver an memory may be failing - wouldn't hurt to reseat the cables and sticks .

I have tried both the suggestions you sent and am having the same problem: unable to get back from the blank screen, have to do a hard shut down to use the PC. After the hard shut down, all is running as usual when I go to "start as usual". The results of scannow show two problems corrected, but when i go to the log, it states I cannot open it. Have checked all the connections and they are just fine.
Could certainly use some more suggestions. Thanks

Just a by the by how old is the machine?
