Shutting down into Hibernate takes more then 3 minutes....

Look my two cents worth again and it might nit do anything but in msconfig screen I uncheck everything in the Start tab and in the Boot tab even the Advanced options.
If you are worried about the mouse try using a cheap wired mouse to try.

I just went into safe mode, ran CCleaner, and disabled ALL non-MS services and everything at startup.
I then turned the computer off, took the battery out and left it for 5 minutes.

Then plugged everything back in and turned it on. Startup was nice and quick, but going into hibernate cost 1.5 minutes.
An improvement perhaps, but still way to much.

Turned the things back on that I had enabled before, and restarted the laptop. Still several minutes to go into hibernation.... :(

It's nice to know that Microsoft is giving deals with Enterprise.

I agree with Layback Bear mate and reading back through the thread I might be missing it but I cannot find any system specs for your ?laptop so

SYTEM SPECS ADD IN

Can we have some systemspecs please as what you have posted gives us not that much (or anythingat all with some folks) to work with and given there are so many manufacturersof components and configurations that do influence what goes on within anygiven machine and OS.
System Info - See YourSystem Specs

I ask because reading the stuff about Enterprise it seems a bit heavy duty stuff for an everyday use machine - not that you don't need it but say for example you are running a small amount of RAM and / or a slow CPU then it makes it tough going for the machine.

As I've mentioned in the beginning, my laptop is an acer aspire 7740g. I also mentioned that it is stock apart from an extra 4gb ram.
I also mentioned that win7 went into hibernate fine in the past. No problems. It's a bit more recent that it started having problems.

I'm still playing around with even viewer. I did find 6 errors, but I haven't figured out how to show them and how to understand what they mean.

Ok mate same specs as my old Toshiba (I take it is running the 1066MHzRAM?) although I really don't know much about Enterprise it does look heavystuff. I actually only run 7 Home on that because I am not a heavy duty user.My Toshiba machine for what it is worth ran a 10 upgrade until I reverted backto 7 cos I am not keen on 10.

Having said that if the machine has run it well in the past why now thehibernation problem? Again I am guessing it is loading an awful lot of stuffinto the machine and as you noticed the app seemed quicker when startup programwere disabled. Myself I would be happy with 1.5 minutes though annoying asopposed to 4-5 minutes which is unacceptable. The other option is to disableprograms / processes ad lib to get an even balance.

By the by are you running a spinner or SSD in that machine because it made all the difference in the world putting an SSD into the Toshiba. If you can afford a same size SSD then you only need to clone the thing or reinstall:sick:

I don't have an SSD :(. I would like to have one, but I'm gonna wait until I buy a new laptop. Which I'm hoping can be put off for a few years ;).

I also have the feeling there is some program/app/service or whatever that is preventing the machine going into hibernate quickly. I just don't understand what it is or why it does that.
The strangest thing is that my setup is very identical to my girlfriends, and her laptop shuts down within 20 or 30 seconds :S. I have spent hours comparing these 2 devices and their settings, but I haven't been able to find anything.

Thats a fair price. But I'm saving up to buy a new laptop. Mine works fine (apart from going into hibernation ;) ), but it is a few years old. Spending that money now means waiting longer to buy a new one.

Enterprise will run fine on even a lower spec machine, these things depend on what software is used on it rather than the OS version.

No one will ask for personal information in this forum and the link by Layback Bear is safe to follow.

Well that was a turn up for the books eh?

Well if performance is what you like then this is the Bible for me at least you might even get something out of it on hibernation - anyway I prefer it to any add on software from "outside" sources I find like many others they can junk the system for you despite telling one they are wonderful.
