ok, so after days of wondering "What is going on on my computer" i finally at least found out how to identify my problem! the problem i have now is obviously solving it.....


THE PROBLEM

Activation context generation failed for "System Default Context" Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\.86_microsoft.windows.controls.resources

The obvious solution would be to restore the factory setting..... only i hadnt created the back up disks, and i have no previous system restore points

what next?

Do you still have HP's recovery partition intact?

If so, you should be able to recover your system, and then create a set of recovery disks.

Failing that, contact HP and they use a third-party supplier who will ship you the recovery disks for $30 or so.

So a complete factory reset is the only way?

Actually a "Repair Install" from an official windows disk would likely fix it. A system file has gotten damaged and a repair install just reinstalls all the files from scratch without messing with your user files or installed programs.

I do not know of the HP recovery disks have that option or not though :/

One thing to possibly try is to find that file on a working W7 install and just try copying it over to the broken install. I mean nothing to lose probably at this point.
