slow connection

ive just moved to windows 7 from XP about a week now and my internet connection has been slow since the move some pages generally take 10 seconds or more to load, im using latest firefox and my connection is 14meg tested with speedtest.net
when i was on xp pages would come up fairly instant, i also have a little problem with being connected to the net on boot up, takes a while to connect or i have to go into network and clik on the sort problem out and then its ok biut its a bit bloody annoying, dont know if the two problems are related.

Test what happens in [safe mode + net], and also what happens when you uninstall (not disable) your anti-virus solution.

Are you using an integrated NIC or a PCI card? If it's integrated I'd take the plunge and buy a gigabyte PCI card rated for Windows 7. You can get one for about $30.00 and it may just be money well spent.

in time i want to get a gaming NIC card but havent got the cash at the mo,
H2S04 i tried starting up in safe mode +net but that didnt help so uninstalled the security software Bullguard and that seems to have sorted the problem so thanks for that.
just leaves me know with out virus protection and means i need to use windows firewall which might be good but dosent let me control out going connections

ZoneAlarm Extreme is in beta and I have been testing it rather well for the past 1.5 months or so. Full control of all packets in or out, based on application running. And free (beta.)

Hint: Put network adapter in internet zone, not trusted zone, and setup from that starting point.

It has Kaspersky antivirus built in.
