I'm back on this TOSHIBA Satellite L505D-5007 Laptop that I hadn't used in a while. Want to get it working better, it has a very slow startup and today even failed to Open File Explorer promptly, it opened but ended up opening Three Instances because I kept clicking on it. File Explorer working fine now but still have the slow Startup.

1. I looked on the Not-So-Good Toshiba Site for any Drivers that may help. And tried to log on to my account at the Forum but always have trouble doing that. I did not see any Firmware Drivers for any type of HDD stuff so didn't think that of any help.

2. Tried to Update through the Device Manager:
a. ST9120822AS ATA Device
b. IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, ATA Channel 0 only. Did not try the rest because the first one was fine.

3. Looked at Startups, but all seemed good there.
a. Just Disabled Logitech Download Assistant, but the rest seem needed.

4. BIOS is up to date.

5. Ran MalwareBytes, all good there.

Thanks, Nasty7

Here is a Reply from "johnhoh" from an old thread of mine where I though I would continue with this computer, but it was moved here.

johnhoh QUOTE:
start > run > msinfo32 > components > problem devices will tell you if you need any drivers. If its blank, you don't

I would see how responsive the system is within both Safe Mode as well as doing a normal mode Clean Boot

Just installed this and it did not help.
"toshiba value added packege"
I find this is only needed when installing other Toshiba Software, but I'm still at a loss here. Startup times are at 1:45 and still after that some things are not opening properly. HDD Seems okay and this laptop has ran pretty well for some time now. I will dig through the Drivers on the Tosh site to see if anything there will help. I still don't see any answers for the Problem Device that you help me find? I did see one site saying to install the "Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless" to solve the Problem Device, I'll do this next.

My laptop is in my Signature.

Does anyone know what is going on with the Toshiba Forums?

the below search results is why I suggested the value added package and the intel driver detect program. Other possibilities are the acpi driver for your machine and the firmware package listed at toshiba. There's a lot of stuff listed as drivers for your machine, one of them is probably what you need.

ACPI\TOS1901 - Google Search

you have not commented on whether or not you ran intel driver detect, or a clean boot, or safe mode.

Working on it John, there were some other things that I thought it might be. The Ethernet was starting very slow, and noticed the sound was not working either, so installed some drivers, reboot, reboot etc. No fix. I read some other Threads that were saying to install some other things, and the threads were solved. Don't have access to that stuff now because on another computer. I've done this before successfully so was thinking maybe the HDD was having some issues, so testing that now with Seatools for Windows. I try that stuff as soon as the HDD Tests are done, thanks!

Not sure why Intel® Driver Update Utility" would be of help, I did not think there was any Intel stuff on this laptop? Installing now.

just throwing out ideas after searching. The intel driver detect worked for someone else because I did not know your model, but think I've figured it out now (there is no model 5007 but there is an LS5007). Based on further searching, suggest you install these three programs from your driver page. They may have functions within them that help you figure this out.

Toshiba Service Station
Toshiba HW Setup Utility
Toshiba Supervisor Password Utility

Satellite L505D-LS5007 Support | Toshiba

btw a super slow startup sometimes means windows is trying to initialize some hardware that has gone bad in some way, like a usb device. Try removing any usb devices and see if booting is quicker without them.

If all else fails, try running Snappy SDI Lite to see if it can figure out the bad driver

I gotcha! I tried the Intel thing but it did not find any devices. I fixed my Signature with the proper model.

Toshiba Service Station: Already tried this one but will try the other two now.

HDD is good, so if these don't work I will reinstall because I think something else is going on here. I never had this problem before, so it all seems quite odd. I also want to get myself new Windows 7 Retail iso if possible. The one I have is old and proven good, but I wonder...in general, if the newer images are improved? I had good experience with a new image of Windows 8 not long ago. Seemed to install and run better than the old image I had. Thanks for all your help, I'll post back tomorrow probably.

Well...it seems the HDD is going bad. The official Seatools did not show this, but CrystalDisk did...and...I think this is a super slow drive that came out of an old Vista laptop. Too bad because this was the second install I did to try and fix this problem. SATA 150, here is the drive ST9120822AS. Will get another drive and be done with it.
