When I shake the HDD, I can hear something loose inside, like sand. It does not boot and is not seen by BIOS. Possible to repair it?

No, not possible. BER - beyond economical repair, a term we use when something has to be junked.. Once it is physically damaged, you have to discard it. Buy a new one.

"If you were feeling plucky, you could just go to a data specialist and get a man in a white coat in a lab to carefully take your entire hard drive apart and put it all back together, in the hope of rescuing your drive, but you'll be looking at a bill for at least £1,000."

+1 to Jumanji's advice. I had an out of warranty Seagate with the same problem. I took it outside, stood it on a corner and hit it with a large hammer to split the platters, then took the bits to the WEE dump. Fortunately I had a backup and was able to recover everything. I sincerely hope that you also backed up.
