SP1 x64 Won't Upload...I have tried everything!

I have been trying different fixes for 3 days now and I still cannot get Windows 7 SP1 x64 to update on my machine. I have tried everything that I have seen on these forums to try and fix the issue but I still get this code when trying the install:

80073712

Is SP1 critical? Can I let it ride for a while and see if any new patches come out? I do not want to reload Windows as I have a ton of applications and programs that are native to work and I don't have time to reload everything.

The System Update Readiness Tool for Windows can correct some conditions that cause Windows Update error 80073712 error. To learn more about this tool, go to What is the System Update Readiness Tool? on the Windows website.
If the System Update Readiness Tool does not correct the problem, you'll need to repair Windows. Repairing Windows won't damage your personal files or the programs that are installed on your computer.
Once you finish the repair, you'll need to rerun Windows Update to install any updates aren't included on the installation DVD. To repair Windows, follow these steps:

1. Close all programs, and then restart your computer.
2. Insert the Windows DVD into the computer's disk drive. Wait for Setup to start. If Setup doesn't start automatically, follow these steps:
   
   1. Click Start, and then type Drive:\setup.exe in the search box, where Drive is the letter of your computer's DVD drive (for example, D:\setup.exe).
   2. In the Programs list, click Setup.exe.
3. Click Install Now.
4. Click Go online to obtain the latest updates for installation (recommended).
5. If you're asked for it, type the Windows Product key.
6. In the Which kind of installation do you want? window, click Upgrade.
7. When the installation is complete, restart your computer, and then run Windows Update.

Error 80073712 occurs when the Windows component store is corrupt. The component store holds the files and information that's used to install updates. The System Update Readiness Tool checks and repairs corrupt files and registry data. Error codes this applies to:

• WindowsUpdate_80073712
• 0x80073712

I've done all of the above also and still get the error...running sfc /scannow reveals a corrupt file but it cannot be repaired??

presumably you have tried a repair install using your disc.

I am stumped on this one! I'm not sure what to do but I can not re-load Windows at this point. I've even tried in-place install to repair Windows 7 and it still reported the corrupt file but would not repair.

I have done all of the following:

Disk Cleanup
Defrag
Hotfix from Microsoft (as recomended by the error details)
Renamed upload distribution file
Ran sp1 upload from stand alone file
Repair install from disc
sfc /scannow with disc

That's about it so far...

try running in safe mode with command prompt and install from cmd

personally ,i have sp1 on the laptop but havent bothered with it on my desktop. when it becomes essential then i will. i have too many theme customizations to re do them at the moment.

Tried that just now...I also tried changing my start-up to test mode just incase any apps/programs were interfering. Still no go!

Are you sure that you are talking about the correct tool?

In any case, have you been installing all other updates?

There are still more steps that can be taken, but I'm hoping that a couple of the big guns step in here soon. They are extremely experienced at dealing with update problems.

Just to be sure, I just ran the tool linked above and it installed ok but the update failed once again. All other updates seem to have installed fine.

Please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here.

While it is always a danger that even a compressed CBS folder is bigger than the allowed limit, in reality it very rarely happens. You are the first this year for this forum under my watch

There is however some bad news. You seem to have in excess of 50 corrupt for missing system files, and before running the System Update Readiness Tool, you had in excess of about 135 missing or corrupt files.

Before we try anything, can you please download Sea Tools for Windows: Sea Tools for Windows

and run a SMART test if available (< 1 minute), a short self test (< 5 minutes), and a long self test (several hours), and report back with the results. This tests your hard disk to see if it is dying.

Ok, one thing I noticed that is strange is that the Sea Tool is listing two drives when I know I only have 1, is this normal? See screen cap...

I am running the tool now but it has already passed the first short check on both of the drives listed at the top.

Won't hurt anything as far as the test is concerned, but when test finishes:
Go into the bios and make sure the disk doesn't show up twice there.
Check the wiring between disk and motherboard.
