I've installed Windows 7 Home Basic x86 on a PC. The OS is located on "C" drive as usual. The C drive's size is 21 GB, There is now 6 GB space free after installation,Now I want to install 64 bit version. But the setup isn't letting me to do it. Because it says, there must at least 15 GB free space.

If I format the drive, there will be more than 15 GB free space. But I can't do it,because after that there will be no more any OS on that PC.Is there any way to format the drive first then install the OS?

Any solution?

Note : I am installing manually from my PC, not from any DVD/USB.
I also haven't got any 4GB+ Blank DVD/USB right now.

What exactly does that mean?

If you don't have the installation files on a DVD disc or on a USB stick, I'm not sure what you are doing.

If you want to end up with just Windows 7 64-bit, the normal procedure would be to delete the boot from whatever installer you have and delete all partitions.

I made a typo. Remove the phrase "delete the", which leaves this:

He doesn't have any external boot media.

It can be done without that - but too complicated for a beginner

Is there any way to format the drive first then install the OS?

If I were you, I would extract the entire contents of your windows 7 ultimate iso onto the 6gb partition.

You can use http://www.7-zip.org/download.html for that.

Then add boot.wim to your boot menu - you can use http://neosmart.net/download.php?id=1 for that.

Click Add entry - select the WIM tab - then browse to boot.wim

Boot.wim will be in the sources folder of the iso you just extracted onto your 6gb partition.

Click Add

Restart pc - select the entry for boot.wim you just added.

You will need to select Drive Options (advanced) to format the 21gb partition and install onto it.

See step 7 here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

NOTE: If you format your 21gb drive - you will lose everything on it.

I've done it as you said, but now whenever I try to turn on my PC, I see some meaningless codes and below that it says :

BOOTMGR is missing

Any solution?

Note : I tried to re-install the OS with a XP CD, but nothing happens at all.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know how you managed to do that.

I boot wims off the HD several times a day.

Because I am lazy, I use easybcd to add the boot menu entries.

You should have more than one entry on your boot menu- your operating system ( which will called windosw 7) and a second entry for the boot.wim (unless you deliberately renamed that, it would be called NST WinPE IMAGE. )
