Specific upgrade paths to get to all versions of Windows 10

I don't know what the info in that article really means, and if it is right or wrong ...
I think that is one example of where this info is coming from that people interpret as "WLM being discontinued".

I ran the W10 compatibility checker on one of my systems.
No problems with hardware compatibility.
It showed 1 program was not compatible with W10.
I have WLM on that system and it did not get flagged as incompatible.

The person who has written that article you linked to is, as you can clearly see if you browse the MS Answers site a bit more, an expert in Copy & Pasting with in my opinion quite limited knowledge in anything else Windows related, so it's no use to post there and ask more information because as Windows Live Mail has not been mentioned anywhere as a discontinued product, he will find nothing to copy & paste.

Please, don't make yourself . I would pass out before even getting half way down. I would most likely upchuck it but do to medical reason I can't drink anymore, I never drank that much anyway.

No, i don't know of a direct link for a "W10 compatibility checker".
I have all the W10 Windows Updates installed, and have the W10 Taskbar icon.
I have not reserved a copy of W10, but i can run the compatibility checker from the W10 Taskbar icon.

If you want to run it, the KB3035583 Windows Update needs to be installed (and maybe 1 more) to get the icon.
You could install the update, run the compatibility checker, then uninstall the update.
That might work, if you really want to run it ???

Thanks for the detail on how to do it. I think I'll pass. It was just my idle curiosity. I suspect we will eventually see a free-standing checker soon enough and I can run that. At most, I wouldn't expect it frown on anything except possibly a few software packages.

I haven't got the Windows 10 updates on my pc either so I ran the Windows 8 compatibility checker instead which passed on everything. I'm guessing the requirements for 10 would be more or less the same?

As it pertains to the OEM licenses this will invalidate the Windows 10 upgrade license because it will no longer have a previous base qualifying license which is required for the free upgrade. You will then have to purchase a full retail Windows 10 license. If the base qualifying license (Windows 7 or Windows 8.1) was a full retail version, then yes, you can transfer it.

Looks like I've got the answer to my question, retail rights will remain intact after the upgrade.

People are saying he's just a copy and paste expert. But how do we know he hasn't pasted straight from some sort of MS document? The same people dismissing negativity are also being negative about it. So, not sure what that's about?

Get your facts straight. That was my first post in this thread and I quoted his posted info and Microsoft's posted info to show the omissions of what was copy/pasted.

I could care less what everyone believes since facts never seem to matter.

I never said it was false either, just incorrectly posted.

So, that's what my post was about.

It is recommended that if you participate in a discussion, you do not just pick some posts to read and jump over some other posts. You should read all the posts.

Like now. The seventh last post before yours (post #123 here), Derekimo explained this with an example. The only thing MS has ever said about Windows Essentials and Windows 10 is "If you have Windows Live Essentials installed on your system, the OneDrive application is removed and replaced with the inbox version of OneDrive."

In the hands of this known Copy & Paste expert this has been changed to explain that the whole Windows Essentials will be killed. That is not the case, Microsoft has never said anything like it. It's just that someone with limited knowledge takes some facts and some rumors and makes his own misguided, invalid statements.

Maybe you should post a reply on the site then and tell him which parts you think he's copied and pasted.
It might help to clear some of it up if he's incorrect. Or do you just want to call him a copy and paste artist on here and leave it at that?
If you think the article is false then why not tell him about it? Not trying to sound argumentative, but if you don't agree with the article then what's the harm in asking?

According to the MS site, if you have OneDrive then it'll be replaced with the built in OneDrive inbox. But, as has been said before that article states Windows live essentials will be removed so it's not clear. But I can't see any reason why WLE wouldn't work on W10?

Also, if you guys want me to post any questions on there with regards to clearing anything up, I'd be happy to do it.

But the "Live" is the older batch which a lot of people prefer the older version compared to the w.e. 2012 versions,
I believe they are the x-p versions of wle 2009 and some from wle 2011

Either way the wiki is for the most part accurate but yes indeed a lot of copy and pasting was used
M$ is supposed to monitor wiki article for accuracy on some thing that long there's going to be mistakes I'm sure Shawn knows that pretty well

Report inaccurate statements to the author is all I can say.

Still using WLM 2012 myself here and I'd prefer to keep using it but if that statement is true then I'm sure I could find an alternative.
I've just looked at some of the latest questions on there and seems someone has asked him about that.

I don't use it I use office outlook 2007.

Although a lot of people may have "live.com" email addresses ?
