SSD stopped being recognized

I think i am going to hold on this update. Last time i tried updating the firmware i killed my drive. I still have 5000 hours to go

Hey AlexRD, go here http://www.sevenforums.com/news/206828-attention-crucial-m4-ssd-owners-8.html#post1742189 and read forward. As you'll see there was a bunch of us who updated successfully with a burn to a CD of the firmware. With the 0309 FW there is no need to first switch the drive mode to IDE in BIOS. I did it on a bare, new drive and it took all of 2 minutes. WHS and others had Win 7 on their drives. As always, I recommend have a way back if thing go bad, but none were reported with this process, that is make an image now or have you files backed up on some separate media.

So, this problem came back today.
I am going to try the power cycle again, but i am wondering what could cause this problem?

If you run from a spinner does everything work fine? (albeit slower!)
You have a relatively expensive SSD based on your specs. I'd RMA it if that's an option.

One additional thing ...based on little data I wonder if the Crucial M4s and ASUS Z68 motherboards may have a bit of an issue. My 4K-64 speeds are lower than expected even after a secure erase of the SSD. Another member reports declining performance over time.

I suspect the SSD is failing.

I guess i am going to update the firmware to 309 and hope for the best
At least this time i will get to do a full backup

A personal view:
You say your 512GB SSD is ~1 month old. The 0309 firmware upgrade was more to do with the 5000 hour issue. I'd send it back for a replacement.

It seems unlikely to me that only one change was made between 0009 and 0309.

In any case it does not hurt to try 0309. It is dead simple to do.

Hopefully i won't have the same problems as before with the OCZ Vertex 3, i just bought the new Intel 520 series 120 SSD. My last experience with the Vertex 3 did not go well, after a week of trying different things i sent it back. Thought waiting till the newer models came out maybe they would work a little easier.

In any case it does not hurt to try 0309. It is dead simple to do.

Sure but it appears that this SSD is worth $600-$650. I'd be sending it back quick smart if it has problems on the earlier 009 firmware when the drive is virtually brand new.
