Solved Start Menu "Shut down" button puts PC to sleep

This just started a couple days ago and I can't figure out why. I haven't installed any new software or messed with any relevant settings that I can remember. As the title says, clicking Start -> Shut Down puts it to sleep. I've checked the Power options in Control Panel and all of that looks right. Thanks for the help!

That is an odd one, maybe try resetting the power plan you`re using to defaults.

And it wouldn`t hurt to run a system file check, the link is below.

You could try a system restore to about a week ago.

Yea that is a odd one on my account too!; never heard of that one. In addition to checking the power options/plan in the control panel; I would restart the computer and go into your bios and check to see what power management options are/arent enabled.

Is there any other way to properly shut down or should I just kill it? I know doing it every once in a while isn't too bad but I like to avoid it.

Well shutting it down using the shut down button should shut it down, not put it to sleep; IF its putting it to sleep, then something is amiss with power management either in the bios or in windows power management. I cant recall if there is any way to shut it down other than holding the power button in which is not good to do cause it can corrupt system files if done too often.

Just to double check - right click your start button go to properties - make sure 'Shut down' is selected in the drop down.

I think you`ve found it, but then again, I think this is the same option you would find in Power Options.

Nope! It must be in the BIOS somewhere, I just haven't had the chance to check yet.

Hmm, I went with the assumption his power button would say 'Shutdown' and not 'Sleep'. Else it would have been too obvious.

Alright, so I rebooted into the BIOS settings, didn't find anything about shutting down, and exited without saving. Guess what? It works now. No idea why but it's fixed.
