Starting Windows too long

I've noticed during my boot ups, that when it comes to the Starting Windows disiplay, it hangs up for about 40 seconds before going into the sign in window. How can I decrease the time duration in Starting Windows? I have already minimized the programs in the Start Up service, I have also ran autorun.exe and cleaned that up. What else can I do?

Easy mate put the OS on a SSD and use the spinner for data

If you decide on a SSD ask in here and you will get a tsunami of advice

Well a SSD will for sure help if you don't already have one. These would help us help you. Both methods work well.

You could also take a look in msconfig/Services/Non Microsoft Services.

When in Services lower left corner and select Hide all Microsoft Services.
I do not recommend mucking with Microsoft Services.
All I have selected is my security.

Thank guys for the replies. An SSD is out for now. I wasn't looking for such a drastic change, only something within my present system now. My mobo chipset won't support an SSD now anyway, so I am trying to stick with what I have. I never use to have this problem until recently. So, there is something in my system that could be causing it, but I don't or haven't found what it is. I am using AVG for my anti-virus and I am using the Windows Firewall and the Hardware Firewall in my Linksys router. Malwarebytes also, but that does not start up with windows. Layback Bear, you first say, "You could also take a look in msconfig/Services/Non Microsoft Services". Then you later say, "I do not recommend mucking with Microsoft Services". So, what is it you are trying to say there??? BTW, my msconfig startup services are at a minimal. Only 5 items. I have already temporarily eliminated all those items with no change to my original problem. Reinstated the items back to what I had.

If the 40 second delay is new (?) what did you do just prior to this? AVG is a resource hog too.

Microsof Services. I do not recommend fooling with these. They control how Windows 7 works.



Non Microsoft Services. They control 3rd party programs.

My mobo chipset won't support an SSD now anyway

1. If your mobo supports Sata, it can run SSDs
2. Get rid of AVG and install MSE - AVG is useless anyhow.
3. Disable all startup programs

OK. I checked Hide all Microsoft services and disabled all Startup items in MSCONFIG, then restarted computer. Looks like I lossed 10 seconds and I am down to 30 seconds now. Britton30 asked what was new from before? Other than adding and deleting programs, nothing more than that. It was fine with my Firewalls working before. I guess the question would be, what would be a reasonable amount of time for this Starting Windows to display? I don't believe it has to be a set particular amount of time, considering the makeup or buildup of any one computer unit. It is just that I have noticed how much longer mine takes from what I experienced in the past. Thanks Layback Bear for clearing that up. I'm going to start uninstalling programs that I don't need or use that often and see if some of that helps. I appreciate all of your comments. Thanks

Uninstalling programs won't help. You have to get rid of the startups and AVG.

We all are saying about the same thing. Get rid of all the junk startups remove
AVG and all other anti virus that might be installed. Then install MSE.
You can have a hundred programs installed; if they don't start up at boot they just sit there and wait for your beckon call.

OK. That did the trick. I removed AVG, but left my 5 entries in the msconfig System Startup alone. The Starting Windows time dropped to less than 18 seconds. Thank you all for your inputs.

Hiyya gilloz sorry late reply I see the others have got you sorted I would have said get rid of that AVG too and did you check the Start up tab in msconfig I have mine set to security and the OS only -oh plus Bins.
