Hello! I'm new to this forums, and first of all i'll apologize for my english, because i'm from Chile and i speak spanish :)

Well, the problem is that yesterday my notebook didn't boot well. (OS: windows 7 home premium x64) and started the "startup repair" thing. No problem with that at all...

But... the startup repair was unable to repair/fix the issue.
It said something like this: "startup repair couldn't repair blablabla", and when i clicked on "details" it showed a list of things without errors.

And at the last, it said something like this:
Principal problem: the OS is not compatible with the startup repair program.

Then it says restart or cancel (anyway, both of them restart the pc) and when it is starting again, it opens the startup repair... AGAIN, so ... its like an endless startup repair without any repair.

BUT, startup repair gives other ways of repairing, like:

- Restore from backup ( wich i cant use cause i dont have any backup )
- Memorytest ( used it, the memory is okay )
- command prompt thing. ( this one is the one i think i should use for repairing my notebook)

*The thing is that I dont want to lose information.

So, is there anyway to restore or fix-repair my problem (¿boot problem?) using the command prompt thing without loosing any data (documents, photos, music, programs, etc) ?

and again... sorry if i don't speak english perfectly, if you didn't understand something, just tell me, and i'll try to explain it.

* I'm not using my computer right now, i'm on a ciber ( don't now if you use the word "ciber" to describe a place where you pay for using a pc ).
** I'll go to my house and wright all the results of the startup recovery, so you can see it.

Thank you very much! :D

EDIT: This are the results literally:

any windows 7 x64 install DVD or Startup Repair CD, not a OEM recovery disk like Sony.

Try also running bootrec /fixboot and bootrec /fixmbr from the Command Line since you have access to it. You might also get Startup Repair to work correctly if you try it again since it must be the same version if it is the one preinstalled with Win7.

Not :(

3 things:

1.- I create a Startup Repair CD from a mate's pc, windows 7 home premium 64 bits. Used it and the same problem.

2.- Used FixBoot and FixMbr on the command thing, and it said: Completed Correctly. And when I restarted... nothing new :(

3.- Used ScanOS, and the result where: Total of windows instalations identified: 0
... is that normal?

Thx Theog and gregrocker for your time and answers :D

YOu may need to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots, once you've confirmed the Win7 or it's 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred) are marked Active: Partition - Mark as Active

You can mark Active and see a graphic picture of your HD using free Partition Wizard bootable CD, as well as post back a cam snap of the drive map with listings from which we can possibly detect underlying problems. If you mark Active this way, highlight the HD and from the Disk tab choose Rebuild MBR which might preclude the need to run Repairs.

Running the bootrec commands is just to jumpstart Repair if CD finds no installation to repair. All boot repair and a dozen other tests and fixes are automated in Startup Repair.

But if 3 Repairs doesn't do it, you can manually try System Restore from the System Recovery Options, as well as from Command Line try SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.

You should also run a bootable AV CD scan like Bitdefender: FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List. If it cleans up infections, run Startup Repair and SFC again to see it it will start.

If all fails, you can copy out your data with CD this way: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then run Sony Factory Recovery from partition or Recovery Disks, or find a Win7 installer to clean reinstall with the Product Key on your COA sticker: Reinstalling Windows 7

Sounds too complicated in english and in general, so ill leave it in a techniqe service center :) thx for your time guys :) maybe ill be back here
