That article shows how to erase the entire drive. I am only interested in erasing, shredding, or overwriting with multiple passes individual files or folders, or empty/unused space, which can be done easily on spinner drives with CCleaner, Eraser, Recuva, or other similar programs.

Short of encrypting the entire SSD, there seems to be no practical way to do what I want. I'd like to know how commercial, industrial, or government entities deal with this security flaw.

The SSDs automatically secure erase when the TRIM command is issued. Which happens shortly after a file is deleted.
