The COA key cant be activated online, only via phone activation.

I've been able to activate the COA online on six Dell laptops, one HP and one Gateway *shudders*, all using the COA key from the sticker on the laptop's casing.

I know that this thread is a little old.

I've gotten this message on 7, vista & server 2008 r2. I've also traced it to a registry cleaner deleting something crutial. Now I've quit using such things.

Which is one of the reasons that registry cleaners are not recommended....

Just curious, but how would a registry cleaner change/affect something that's based off of a hardware hash? Some registry cleaners may be bad, but some don't go deep enough to cause any real issues, such as CCleaner. That app has fixed many issues for me over time.
