Hello. I've purchased an Acer Aspire M3202 a little over a year ago with a free upgrade disc to Windows 7. Over the past year I've had no issues, but recently out of the blue I keep getting repetitive dialogs saying that my copy of Windows 7 isn't genuine even though it is.

I've run the "genuine check" online application only to have it say it would disable some of my features, so I quickly closed out of the application. So far my computer seems unaffected other then that annoying dialog popping up every few hours. I have blocked its process using a process blocker but would like to solve the issue completely.

Have you made any changes to the hardware of the computer? Sometimes hardware changes can cause Windows to think it is on a different computer and thus not licensed properly.

I agree, that's generally what you have to do. Usually you have to talk to someone over the phone, you can explain the situation to them, and they have the ability to give you a special code that will allow you to activate Windows again (as I'm sure it says in Brink's link).

Little problem though, I can't open "slui.exe", I have disabled all my process blocking utilities and restarted to no avail, UAC is also not blocking it. It just won't open.

What type (ex: OEM or retail) of free Windows 7 upgrade disc is it, and did it come with a valid product key number?

If you boot from it, does it give your the installation screen seen in step 3 here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html ?


If it does, then start over and install it using one of the options in the tutorial below and see if you are able to activate afterwards.

If not, then you might contact Acer to see what they have to say since they sent you the upgrade disc. They may be able to send or give you a replacement key number.

The upgrade disc is only an Acer wizard and must be used in Windows Vista. I did not require a serial with it, I don't think.

The file mismatches are a big worry. It seems that a possible illegal activation crack has been run on your system & Microsoft WAT Update has flagged your system as non-genuine.

Do you have the ask for genuine microsoft software logo showing in your System Properties ?

Open a cmd window and type sfc /scannow press return and wait for it to find and fix the altered files. Then you might be able to activate it.

No, I do not have a Genuine Windows Product logo when I go into my computer properties, but I do have the Acer logo.

I have had this problem on a previous installation of Windows 7 and have used an activator to bypass it, but since then I have reformatted and done a legit install. I have no clue why this would be happening.
