It is also frustrating because I learned that for third year re-award they want to see a huge social media presence and 7F also provides all the social media I want - although I added Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn just for them.

I thought the idea of the award was as a recognition to the real experts in the community that spend countless hours of their own time helping others with Microsoft products and not advertising them.

Lets face it, if you ain't re-awarded then they've lost the plot with what an MVP is all about and it ain't worth having.

Thanks Kathryn. I'm trying to be enthused. But I feel like the best OS ever is being smothered in its crib even before it's reached the peak of its popularity.

Thanks, John. That means as much to me as the award itself. You have given us all a great gift which should keep on giving. We've never been busier.

I'm filling out MVP application MS sent for third year re-award January 1st. This is a spreadsheet that wants me to list all of my publications, speaking engagements, etc. into various columns. It is nearly impossible to communicate my contribution of 6-8 hours a day in these forums, and it looks very insignificant on a huge spreadsheet.

It is also frustrating because I learned that for third year re-award they want to see a huge social media presence and 7F also provides all the social media I want - although I added Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn just for them.

And since the company's changed focus entirely to Win8 I don't know that I'm even eligible any longer as a 7 guy. But I've done more this year than the past two so I'll fill out their application.

Hello Greg,

Yes you will still be eligible. The MVP award is for the support you provide for all Windows, not just Windows 8.

Social media presence is a very broad generic term. Take me for example, I do all my help only at VF, EF, and SF. I only relay tutorials off of FaceBook and Twitter. Every once in a blue moon, I post at the MVP private discusion sites. Basically all of my activity is here at VF, EF, and SF. So far, I have had no issus with my MVP award (4+) be renewed each year.

If you stress over trying to be everywhere, you're going to burn yourself out. I'd say stick with what your happy and good at. Next, just occassionlly post an update on FaceBook, Twitter, etc... if you like about say a link to a new tutorial or solution you created.

As John posted, if you don't get renewed, then there's something wrong at Microsoft and not you with all that you do. :)

Can anyone suggest an easy way I can link key fixit posts or tutorials to FB, Twitter and LinkedIn to populate those? I'm being told in MVP group I joined on LinkedIn that with what I do this will be adequate for social media connections.

Also if anyone wants to friend, tweet or link to help me get it going (if it's not too late) I guess you'd PM me.

Guess I need to make a gregrocker FB page to separate it from my personal, or can I just wall off my personal stuff.

I'm not facebook expert but I think you could setup fb like I did for SF & EF, you could make a page for GregRockerMVP that is connected to your personal account for administration purposes but none of your personal stuff shows.

To do that go Create a Page | Facebook and setup GregRockerMVP under "Artist, Band or Public Figure" once setup just post all of the threads you help in on the new page.

Now how do I link from 7F to there, Tweet stuff from 7F, Link it to LinkedIn profile?

(I think I shocked myself when I filled in on spreadsheet: Post count past year 11,840 vs. previous year post count 6562)

Greg,

Liked you on FaceBook.

Do you have a Twitter account setup?

@GregCarmack is my twit. Would it be better to make it gregrocker1 which is available? or similar to the FB name?

Fifteen threads have piled up while I try to become sociable. Is there a way to easily tweet or link key posts or tutorials that won't get me behind here?

One reason I've avoided this in the past - and admittedly put it off to the last minute - is I don't like getting help requests outside of the forum threads. So what would this benefit?

Hi Greg,

It would be a real travesty of justice if Microsoft didn't reawrd you MVP. And I totally agree with the others about the title not being worth anything if they did so. Good luck and I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Thanks everybody! I just hope MS still appreciates Win7 as much as we do.

Yes Bill it feels like a job I have been dreading, would be intolerable if friends here wouldn't have helped the Social Awkward get it set up. Now WTF do I do with it?

What I enjoy doing is answering posts in threads. The rest is jumping through hoops.

Bill,
If you start singing I am going to pack up Donna and leave the State!

Greg,
If I were you, and I am not, I would just continue doing what you love to do and that is helping others. If MS can't see that then all the reports and hoops you are trying to jump through aren't worth the pile of beans that they are full of.

The awards and $5.00 might get you a cup of brew at Starbucks. The real satisfaction comes when you have resolved and helped an OP and he says thank you for a job well done.

I've been there and done that in the Pharmaceutical, Mortgage Banking and Dept of Corrections jobs where I have gone above and beyond the job descriptions with little or no acknowledgement from the higher ups. It was when the nurse, doctor, the borrower, or a guard said thanks for all you help is what made the day worth all the effort that went into it.

Just don't want you not to lose any sleep over it and thank you for all you have done for all of us.
THW

Greg,
My pleasure.
Donna and I served during the Vietnam War and my son served during Desert Storm.
Our reward was serving our country to have the freedoms we have today and getting home alive. "Some gave all!"
