Thanks Ted this is something that I have to have all the information to hand before doing anything, I don't rush it, it took me quite a time before I first did the partition work and dual booting with WinME and XP. I did have PowerQuests Partition Magic at that time though to do all the work with the partitions.

To start with you would need to (in disk management) right click the windows 7 partition and select " Mark as Active ..." then you would need to run a startup repair at least 3 times on Win 7 to create the boot files in the Windows 7 partition then you could remove Vista at your leisure.
I was always under the impression though that I'd have to have some sort of partition program as you can't move back and Vista is at the front of the drive as that was installed first. I just shrunk it's partition and then formatted the unallocated space and installed Windows 7.
